Poll Post for the week starting Monday, June 17

Time to get our weekly poll post underway for our 4 new weekly polls. I start off as usual talking about this week’s Stones poll as we enter poll week 1,038, and we now only run one poll a week at this one as we get closer to the close of the very long running Stones Album VS series. So here is the new question: Tattoo You vs Goats Head Soup, which album do you like best?

vs

Wow, we have a real cool matchup to vote on for this week in this poll! For the very last time, “The Tattoo Us” Polls gets back into the action of this VS poll series, as it's the final and 24th round for its host LP, Tattoo You. TY has a winning record of 14-8-1, good for 10th place in the Stones album standings, and it's guaranteed to end up in the series Top 10 spot when these polls come to a close in the next several weeks. This week TY goes up against the least voted on LP in this series (well, it's tied for that spot), Goats Head Soup, as this is it's 22nd round. GHS also has a winning record at 17-4, and that's good enough for the 6th spot in the standings, but's it's final spot in the standings is still subject to change, even this late in the game.

The thing about this week's excellent matchup, is that it will be one of the last battles between 2 top 10 LPs (I haven't checked all of the remaining matches, but there's only so many matchups left to go, and I do know that GHS will have one last top 10 battle left after this one, and that one will be with the undefeated SF - coming up real soon, but this week's match will still be one of the last of the great battles that we will see in this very long running series. So do make sure you vote and take part in this one!

To see the songs that appear on Tattoo You, click here: TY , and for the songs on Goats Head Soup, click here: GHS. Just remember when looking over the songs on each LP, ignore my ratings for the songs that you will see, as I never wish to influence anybody with what I have down there for each song before anyone votes. You need to decide on your own what LP you feel has the better songs on it.

Looking back at our Stones poll last week, the question was: The Rolling Stones, Now! vs Emotional Rescue, which album do you like best?

vs

Somewhat close voting in this one, and perhaps you weren’t expecting that. I wasn’t. But I feel the right LP one this one too, and it lead for the entire week. To see which LP that was, just click on the following link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 1,037. Or, you can check out all of the past final results from all of our Stones Album VS Polls and view the updated, current album standings at the Stones VS Page 1.

Now we move on over to this week’s Classic Rock Poll, which enters week 678, and here we vote on 2 different poll questions in one week. At our first poll, the question asks: what is the best Rock Song about being lazy?

Well with summer just about here, this would be a great time to run this poll question, since summer is the laziest time of the year for so many people… I know it is for me anyway…. Now there are so many great songs listed in this week's poll dealing with being lazy, and I must say, I didn't realized this until I put the poll together about 4 hours ago (talk about running late on getting this week's new polls published; usually they are all done and ready to go by Saturday morning the latest). But after I did get the poll published and I looked at the songs listed in their alphabetical order, well, with one song after another, I would look and say to myself, well there's another great song that I could vote for, and out of the 36 listed, I must have said that to myself a good 20 times! So it may take me some tine to decide which song to go with. Really, some great songs that cover being lazy, never realized it before. Will you also have a hard time too picking one song out of this great song list? Well to find out and make your pick, just click on there: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question…. BTW, I don't usually list a singer like Nat King Cole in our polls, as he wasn’t a Rocker at all, and in fact this is a first for him being listed in this poll… But his hit song about being lazy was a top 10 pop hit in the '60s, and pop hits from the ‘60s do get listed, so his song about having lazy and hazy summer days is listed this week for that reason.

For our second Rock poll this week, we have the Rock VS poll, which asks this question: Neil Young vs Stephen Stills, who was the better songwriter of the two?

Both of these guys put out a ton of songs throughout the years and twice they were both in two different bands – together as bandmates. Now unlike what I've been saying for the last few songwriters we voted on, this time, yes, both their solo songs and songs written while members of The Buffalo Springfield and CSNY, will count in this poll, since Neil was a solo artist longer than a band member, while Stephen was a band member a lot longer in CSN when Young wasn’t in that band, and just where would I have to cut off the songs Stills wrote in that lineup? So I just won’t cut off any of the songs (in bands or solo this week) and just consider all of them for this poll. There will be Wiki links to both men in the voting booth so you can check out all of the songs they wrote as songwriters.

To cast your vote in this week’s second Rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Looking back at last week’s 2 Rock polls, the first question asked: What's the funniest or most strange Rock song title?

The Pink Floyd song titled “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict”, a title that only a crazy man like Syd Barrett could come up with (and did), was chosen as the top song title. Second place went to Frank Zappa’s titled song ”Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?”, and in third place was “In-A-Gadda-da-Vida” from Iron Butterfly.

To see where the other songs listed in the poll ended up in the voting, click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 677. Or to see the Top 10 finish only, you can do that at our newest list page: Top Ten Lists, Page, 16.

Looking back at last week’s VS Rock poll, the question asked: David Gilmour vs Roger Waters, who was the better songwriter for Pink Floyd?

A close poll all week long, between 2 and 4 votes was the average lead, but one of these 2 bandmates lead the entire week, too. To see who, click here: Classic Rock Poll 2, week 677. Or to see the results on the VS list page only, please go here: VS Page 3, List Page 15 and look under the “Songwriters VS Polls”.

We close up this poll post in the usual matter with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 429, and here is this week’s question: Pick your least favorite song to open a Beatles UK studio album

In this Beatles poll we have asked in the past for the best opening and closing songs per album, and we have also asked for the most liked/disliked songs per album… but we haven't yet asked for the least favorite Opening and Closing songs on a studio LP, so starting this week - we will vote for the least favorite opening songs per album, then next week look at the least liked closing songs.

Now notice, I realize Beatle fans hate these kinds of questions, and that’s one reason that I waited so long to ask this. But it's still a good and important question to ask and list on our Beatles list pages. Plus most important, I'm not asking you to pick the song you dislike the most, since if you are a Beatle's fan like myself and most Fab fans, there aren't any opening songs on any of their 13 studio albums that you dislike - period! So that isn't what is being asked for here, instead, we are asking you to pick the song out of the 13 that you like the least, and I know 99% of you should be able to come up with one song that you like, but also like the least out of this bunch. Now I realize next week when we ask for the least favorite song to close a Beatle LP, there's that one LP that Beatles’ fans dislike almost as much as Stones fans dislike Dirty Work, that being Yellow Submarine. But… Beatle fans do love side one of that LP, even if some aren't that crazy for the title cut on it, but overall they still even like that song too. But most of them (not I) very much dislike side 2, since side 2 isn't the Beatles or Rock music…. So next week I don't see as much as a problem with getting Beatle fans to vote in that poll, but this week, I know some won't want to vote. So please just don't be that way. If you love the Beatles, well it isn't a crime to admit that even with the greatest Rock band ever to exist, even they have some songs that you don't like as much as others... and by going by this question, which one would you say it is from this list of 13 LPs? To see the list and vote... just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll

In last week’s Fab poll….the poll question was: What is the best 12 String guitar heard on a Beatles song?

Well I noted last week that George had a ton more songs than John as far as his playing electric 12 string guitar over John went, while John had most of the 12 string acoustic guitar parts played, although over all, there were a lot more 12 string electric songs played by George than the 12 string acoustic guitar parts that John played. But I guess Beatle fans like the sound of the 12 string acoustic guitar more, since Lennon took the top 3 spots in the poll’s final results, even though he had a lot less songs listed. Still for first place, the song “Norwegian Wood” was picked, and on that one George did play 12 string acoustic guitar too - along with John, so George did share first with him for that song. The other 2 spots had John playing 12 string acoustic guitar alone, on “You've Got to Hide Your Love Away” (taking second), and “Polythene Pam” (in third).

To see the rest of the list and the rest of the final totals from this poll, just go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 428.

So that will do it for this week’s Poll Post! I thank all of you for taking part in our polls for both this week and last! I know the poll vote totals do fall off some with the summer season now here, as we all are outside a lot more now. Heck, I just got my garden going today, this year I didn’t start any plants from seed, just got them already started from the store. This was one of the latest starts I’ve had to my summer veggie garden, as it was still snowing here up until the last day in May this year. I know a few of my neighbors who tried to start up their garden in mid-May had wished they hadn’t, but around here if you are smart and don’t wish to have to deal with crazy weather and dying baby plants, you wait at least till June first gets here. After all, this isn’t the south here, or the east either when it comes to crazy spring weather, it’s the Rockies, so along with the pretty mountains you get to look at and hike in, you got to put up with snow here even in town up into May in some years, along with freezing temps for most of the nights in May… and plants like tomatoes and marijuana hate such cold weather. You can start your potatoes in mid-May perhaps here, and others that grow underground, but that’s it!

Well I hope you all have a nice week ahead and enjoy this upcoming summer!
