RE: Beatles and Stones Poll Report

Let me try to now finish up my On-Going Polls update, concluding with looking at both the Beatles and Stones On-Going Polls.

Now for starters, remember that if you haven't voted yet in any of these polls, or if it's been a full year since your last voted (you can vote in all the On-Going Polls once a year), you can cast your votes at the Poll Menu Page.

We’ll start off looking at the Beatles On-Going Polls, and the first poll question we will look over is the one that asks: What Is Your Favorite Original Beatles Studio Album? This one started up on July 20, 1999, as all of their On-Going Polls did. For this poll we look at all of the US and UK studio released LPs.

The #1 and #2 LPs that lead the way over the others do have a nice lead to where I don’t think that will ever change, and both of them have been in those spots since the first day of polling began. They are: Abbey Road (with 18.6% of the votes), and The White Album (aka The Beatles) (with 18.1%). Revolver sits in third at 15.1%, then looking at the rest; we have Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band next at 13.1% followed by: Rubber Soul (at 11%), A Hard Day's Night (7.2%), Let It Be (5.7%), Magical Mystery Tour (3.2%), Help! (2.9%), Please Please Me (1.1%), Meet The Beatles (0.8%), Beatles `65 (0.7%), Beatles For Sale (0.7%). Next up is Yellow Submarine (at 0.4%), yes, perhaps a surprise for most that it isn’t in last…. But in a way it is, since the rest that follow are all the U.S released albums that are not only hard to get today, but which have pretty much been forgotten even in the U.S. Truth being, if I was starting up these polls today, I won’t even include them, but back in ’99 I did and I’m not going to remove them now. So the remaining LPs are: With The Beatles (0.4%), Yesterday & Today (0.2%), Beatles VI (0.2% - but with lass votes than Yesterday & Today), Second Album (0.2% - and with less votes than B VI), Something New (0.2% - with less votes than the 2nd Album) and finally, Early Beatles (also at 0.2% and with less votes than Something New).

You can check out the full current results with the totals votes from this poll Here.

Okay, so next up is the poll that asks for your favorite Beatle. Nothing has changed in the order of this poll since it started up, other than George had been inching up on Paul – but he’s still over 400 votes behind him, too. Still that’s a surprise. Anyway, Lennon leads the way at 43.4% of the votes, followed by McCartney at 24.2%, Harrison’s at 21.8%, and last and least Beatle is Ringo at 10.6%... You can check out the full results with the totals votes Here.

Next we have this question: What Is Your Favorite Beatles Song? If you guess that it was “A Day In The Life”, then you guessed right, as it sits in first place with 8.8% of the votes. Second goes to “Hey Jude” at 7%, and in third place is “Strawberry Fields Forever” at (5.7%). Rounding out the Top 10 for this poll, I’ll note that the results do get a bit closer, with “Let It Be” next at 3.3%, followed by “In My Life”, with the exact same percentage – but with fewer votes than LIB, then the remainder of the Top 10 are: “Revolution” (the fast version, at 3%), “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (2.9%), “I Am The Walrus (2.8%), “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)” (2.6%) and “Here Comes The Sun (at 2.5%). So yes, John has most of the songs listed as our favorites. You can see the rest of the current results with the totals votes Here.

So next up is the opposite poll question from the last one, as this time we look at the least favorite song. Beatle fans, as I have noted throughout the years – flat out hate these kinds of questions and both of these next 2 negative poll questions are the least voted on On-Going Polls on the domain, both still with under 10,000 votes cast in each one, although this fist one (for least favorite song) is now less than 100 votes from surprising that number. The top least liked song is – and I don’t think you will be surprised, is “Revolution 9” with a landslide lead at 15.7%. I never agreed with this, I actually like this number, yet I won’t call it a song, either…. Next up is the song that I and Macca both vote for as the worst Beatle song ever, that being “A Taste Of Honey” at 7.5%. Then next is another song that I like, “Yellow Submarine” with 4.1% of the votes.

The remaining Top 10 songs are tunes that most all Beatle fans either love or like, mainly love, so you can bet non-Beatle fans (you know, the Beatle haters who don’t have a clue) voted for these, they are: “A Day In The Life” (at 3.3%, and as I noted, anybody voting for any of this/these songs are totally clueless), then there’s “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” (at 2.7% - and okay, there’s actually a few Beatles fans who dislike this song, but I’m not one of them), “Wild Honey Pie” (at 2.1%), “Back In The USSR” (at 2% - how can you dislike this one?) “Helter Skelter” (the greatest and one of the first ever Heavy Metal songs made – also at 2% - but with less votes than USSR), “Mr. Moonlight” (yet another at 2% with less votes than HS), and in 10th is one of my favorite all time Beatle numbers and my favorite McCartney song, “Hey Jude” ( with 1.9% of the vote). Check out the rest of the current results from this question along with the total votes cast Here.

So the last question asks this: What Is Your Least Favorite Beatles Studio Album? Like the favorite LP question for this one, the U.S. LPs are included on this list. You won’t be surprised that the worst Beatles LP chosen so far – and forever, and we are talking about it being chosen by landslide numbers, is Yellow Submarine with 41.3% of all the votes. Next up is Beatles For Sale, with 7.5% of the votes, and third is an LP many fans dislike yet I love, that being the totally underrated Let It Be, at 6.1%. The rest of the Top 10 are: Early Beatles (5.4%), The White Album (aka The Beatles, at 4.8% - and the greatest double Rock LP ever made – what the hell is wrong with some people?!), then we have Magical Mystery Tour (at 4.5%), Please Please Me (4.2%), With The Beatles (3.2%), A Hard Day's Night (3%) and also at the same percentage but with one lass vote is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. You can check out the rest of the current results from this least voted on question along with the total votes cast Here

So that does it for the Beatles On Going Polls. Since it’s still snowing outside of my door and it's getting whiter by the moment - and I’m going nowhere, let me now head on over to the last of the On-Going Polls that I need to cover, that being the Stones Polls!

These polls were started up on July 19, 1999. We will start up with the On-Going Stones Poll that asks this: What Is Your Favorite Rolling Stones Studio Album? You all know what album leads the way, that being the over-rated Exile On Main Street – with 23.1% of the votes. Then the album that should be in the lead, since it’s light years better an LP than EOMS and their best ever - if not Rock’s best ever released album (IMO of course), that being the great Sticky Fingers, with 19.7% of the votes. In third is another great album and my second favorite Stones LP – and the best Keith lead album made, Let It Bleed, at 16.5%. The last of the Big 4 is in fourth place, that being the great Beggars Banquet at 12.7%. The rest of the Top 10 LPs are a lot closer vote wise, and spots 6 thu 10 have changed spots from time to time. But in 5th place is the best Ronnie era Stones album, that being Some Girls, with 4.6%, followed by what most fans call the most underrated Stones album, that being Goats Head Soup – at 3.7% (I’m surprise it ain’t higher on this list!). Then that’s followed by the album that some fans feel was Brian’s best, Aftermath, with 3.5% of the votes, followed by 12 x 5 (1.8%), Their Satanic Majesties Request (1.6%), and Voodoo Lounge (at 1.4%).

You can check out the full results with the totals votes from this poll Here.

Next up is where we ask for your favorite Stone, and just like where we asked this similar question for the Beatles at their poll, the order for this one has always been the same since the first day the poll went online. Keith Richards leads the way with 36.3% of the votes, followed by the other Glimmer Twin, Mick Jagger, at 27.6%. In third is Brian Jones at 17.4%, followed by the drummer Charlie Watts (7.3%), Mick Taylor (4.9%), Bill Wyman (3.7%) and Ronnie Wood at 2.8%.... You can check out the results with the vote totals from this poll Here.

Now we look at the domain’s most voted on On-Going Poll, with close to 60,000 votes cast is this poll that asks: What Is Your Favorite Rolling Stones Song? “Sympathy For The Devil” is that song, with 6.8% of the votes. “Gimme Shelter” places at 5.5%, while you might think that “Jumpin' Jack Flash” should be in second place over GS, but isn’t (but it used to be), with 5.4%of the vote. The rest of the Top 10 for this question is: “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” (5.1%), “Paint It Black” (4.6%), “Can't You Hear Me Knockin'” ( 2.3%), “Brown Sugar” (2.3%), “Angie” (2.2%), “Beast Of Burden” (2.1%), and “You Can't Always Get What You Want” (2.1%). What? Your favorite Stones’ song isn’t listed, well you can find it Here along with the rest of all of the other songs.

The next 2 polls are negative questions, but it seems Stones fans can handle these kinds of questions more so than Fab fans can, even if yes, these next 2 questions are the least voted on Stones On-Going polls. The first one asks: What Is Your Least Favorite Rolling Stones Studio Album? Now unlike the Fabs same question, at least most of the LPs listed here, other than choices #8 and #10, make more sense than the Beatles picks for this same question. Not a single person reading this will be surprised what the number 1 all-time worst Stones album, and it has been chosen in a major landslide over all of the other LPs, with a whopping 44.3% of the vote, is Dirty Work! The only thing that surprises me is that around 7,500 others voted for another LP! How can any other Stones album be worse than DW?? Anyway, the #2 disliked Stones LP is Undercover, yes that sounds about right, at 7.9% - but still lightyears behind DW in total votes cast, with 36.4% less votes cast for it. Then in third – and again I agree, is the overrated (but not by fans) Steel Wheels, at 7.7%. The rest of the Top 10 are: Bridges To Babylon (6.7%), Their Satanic Majesties Request (6.3%), Emotional Rescue (5.8%), Black N Blue (4.4%), Voodoo Lounge (3.1%), 12 x 5 (2.7%) and Exile On Main Street (1.7%).

You can check out the rest of the results including the vote totals from this poll Here.

The second to last On-Going Stones Poll - and the least voted on Stones poll, is another negative question asking for the worst ever Stones song. Just like with the Beatles similar question, many of the band’s best songs get listed here since yes, even the great Stones have people who hate them. For me, only 2 of these songs should be in the Top 10 here, but what can I say?… The top song picked so far, is half ridiculous to even have to list, but in first is “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” at 4.9%. Like I just noted, let me say it again – a ridiculous pick! Next is “Emotional Rescue” at 3.3%, followed by the beautiful “Angie” at 2.6% and in third place. Next up is the rest of the Top 10: “Anybody Seen My Baby” (2.3%), “Back To Zero (2.3%), “Harlem Shuffle” (1.9%), “Indian Girl” (the second or third worst ever Stones song, IMO, at 1.9%), then what I feel is the worst ever released Stones song, that being the terrible Keith song which is really just a solo number, “Hurricane” and it was only added to the poll’s list on December 11, 2005, 6 years after the poll started up!, so I’m not the only one that can’t stand that song. It has 1.6% of the votes, followed in 9th place by “Sing This All Together (See What Happens)”, okay, not that good either, at 1.5%, and we close out this Top 10 with another song that also shouldn’t be in the T10 but is, also with 1.5% of the vote - but with 7 fewer votes than the last song, is “Gimme Shelter”.

To check out the rest of the current results, including the vote totals from this poll (that is, if you dare, but there’s more bad picks to see, including #11 for sure), just click on Here.

Finally, the very last On-Going Poll to cover asks this positive question: What Is Your Favorite Live Stones Album? If you know your fellow Stones fans well enough, then you won’t be surprised that Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! is the top pick with 35.6% of the vote in a landslide pick! The next 3 are close to each other in the voting: Stripped (12.6%), Flashpoint (12.1%), and Love You Live (11.3%).

The rest are a bit behind, with Rock & Roll Circus, which is only half a Stones LP of course (but still excellent), at 5.8%, Got Live If You Want It (5.2%), Live Licks (added to the poll on 11-02-04, at 4.9%), Still Life (I love this LP, why so low on the list?... at 4.8%), No Security (4.1%), and finally Shine a Light (added to the poll list on 4-02-08, and last listed at 3.6%)…. To see the current vote totals from this poll, just click Here.

So, that does it for my annual update on the On-Going Polls! Remember to use the link way above to vote in these polls if you haven’t yet, and I thank all of you who have taken part throughout the last 20 years in the voting!
