RE: RE: the who..tommy...nsc

Yeah, it's right up there with the Wizard of Oz as far as any reality element goes. But I'm thinking Townshend at the time in his Meher Baba phase was trying to make a point that spirituality is still very important in a materialistic world, and that it could manifest itself at a higher level with sensory deprivation. But as noted the story line is a bit weak, but salvaged by the musical performance. "Quadrophenia" seemed to be the better "rock opera" of the two, with a plausible syory line and also great song content, if not even better than "Tommy". I saw the Who perform both works in concert, and onstage "Tommy" was far superior. The Woodstock performance of "See Me, Feel Me" is a sampling of what the entire show was like. "Quadrophenia" in concert was plagued by too many synth backing tracks, which made the performance less than spontaneous. Also, I saw them play it two nights after Moon had collapsed onstage in S.F., and while he soldiered on he was still not in top form.
