Yes Williams was a bit of a tortured soul. He's probably best known, in fact he's definitely best known, for his 'Carry On' work. The BBC dramatised his life a coupe of years ago in 'Fantabulosa'. Michael Sheen played Williams (to perfection, as he always does, he's such a superb character actor), and it's most definitely worth the watch.
I suppose it was the script writers who came up the line 'Infamy infamy, they've all got it infamy', but of course it's associated with Williams. I would guess it's easily the best known line from the 'Carry On' films, so much so that it's fallen into common usage.
I think that's the thing with Jagger/Richards songs, they are liberally sprinkled with phrases that are in common usage, you gave a very good example of that with 'Wild Horses'. So from that point of view I wouldn't say that Richards' stole anything, he just took what was out there and in every day use, and used it. Stones have been very good at doing that, taking a phrase that's in common usage , and using it direct, or making a small change. It's maybe just as well they are good at it, it's a big part of so many of their songs, and we all love them.
