RE: RE: Silver/B&B/SM/Rock vids and more

Some interesting comments by you 2 guys (S & G) on this week's polls.

I agree w/ what was noted about Keith's "Silver", we are just too used to it and while Jagger's vocal is cool enough, and Mick is clearly the better singer between the 2, I go with Keith's take of the song. It's one of Keith's best vocals!

It's strange how nobody here at Gasland ever comments about the B&B album, it is forgotten here IMO since I almost never hear comments on it while TSMR is spoken about here regularly it seems. Yet as of tonight, B&B is ahead by 2 votes! So while that's still a very close vote and it's very early in the voting, I didn't expect to see that here (and something I've noted a lot in the past about Gasx3, just not a lot about lately, is that the most votes in our polls are cast by Gassers on Monday's and after that the votes come in from other places), so it's intresting to see how you Gassers and lurkers voted in this one, as B&B is a underrated LP for sure - at least here. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the voters take on this poll question as the week grows old... Now while I never was a fan of either LP, and I voted for TSMR, since I'll at least play that one once in a blue moon, I'm actually rooting for B&B to win.

I give the EJ performance a 10, even if it doesn't have a live organ player on there. Had this been that other live take of the song with Elton wearing that stupid costume, I would give that take maybe a 4 at best... But damn did EJ give and put on some of the best and greatest live rock shows that I ever saw in person (and I saw a ton of live shows back in the day), that is, when he didn't go over the top, but after about '75 or so, he did start to go over the top way too much. But up before '73-74 and his release of his great double LP Yellow Brick Road LP, he was tops (and thanks to him I and about 20,000 other fans in 1974 got to see John Lennon live! The greatest surprise for me ever at a rock show!). But his live shows after that double LP was released became not so great anymore as success went to his head, and I never saw him live again. After his okay LP Rock of the Westies LP in '76 (?), that was it for me with EJ and I was no longer a fan of his new stuff after that, but I'll never forget how great not only his studio work was, but how great his live shows were - again, before he became a superstar which ruined him for me. But to get and see him play live and understand who EJ was back before '75, before he changed, and see how great he really was before that time - was a treat indeed!

Meat Loaf - I recall the first time I ever saw or heard of the Meat - it was in the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show, where he played Eddie. The first time I saw that movie I disliked it and totally didn't get it at all. But my wife liked it and made me go see it a second time with her, and the second viewing was the charm for me, and while his part in the flick was a important part of the movie's plot - it was yet a short part for him to play, yet I dug the guy. Around that time this song along with the video was released and few of us know too much about what was behind the video, but it clearly was loved by most rock fans at it's release. So it gets a 10 from me too, even if I totally get why some hated the video, too. It did turn into a love hate thing for many, even if most loved it. I see that's what we are seeing in the early voting too. So this poll should be fun to watch as the week goes on.

For the Beatles battle, I like and voted for the underdog LP WTB here - which has no chance of winning. But that's how I usually vote in these match ups anyway, so nothing new from me here in how I voted.
