You Got the Silver/B&B/SM/Rock vids and more

Time to get our weekly poll post underway for our 5 polls and as usual we start off with the Stones poll, where we enter week 1003, and as usual, we will run 2 different Stones polls in this one week.

So this is the question that we will answer this week in the first Stones Poll: “You Got the Silver”: Mick Jagger on vocals VS Keith Richards on vocals, which take is better?

This was the first released Stones song to feature Keith Richards singing lead vocals throughout a song. Mick Jagger doesn't appear on this Keith sung track at all (a Stones first) and it's the third to last Stones track that Brian Jones played on (playing autoharp) before he stopped showing up at the LIB sessions 2 days later on Feb 18, 1969 (“Midnight Rambler” and “Honky Tonk Women” were his last 2 songs). Music wise, Keith's take features more of his guitar playing on it with less of BJ's autoharp, whereas the version with Mick on lead features more of BJ's autoharp and just a bit less of Keith's guitar.

Both songs will be available to hear in the voting booth so you can compare them, just remember, we aren’t rating anything but the 2 songs only, and the videos mean nothing when you decide on which one you like most.

To vote in this week’s first Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll and click on Poll 1.

For the second Stones Poll this week we ask: Black 'n Blue vs Their Satanic Majesties Request, which album do you like the best?

vs

The Black 'n Blue Polls make their return to the Stones album VS series this week, and of course it features the 1976 LP release of the same name. Black 'n Blue was never a well-loved album, and while it got better reviews than say the LP it's taking on this week, 1967's Their Satanic Majesties Request, as the years passed on TSMR became more loved by fans than B&B did and B&B seems to have been somewhat forgotten by most of us today.

B&B was a transitive LP for the band, with the Stones holding tryouts for a replacement guitar player for Mick Taylor. It also turned out to be officially Ronnie Wood's first album with the band, but then again, not really, as he's only heard playing on 2 of the songs on this one, but he's definitely not only on these 2 songs, but he’s also shown on the back cover of the album, too. By the time the LP was released, while he wasn't an official member yet, Rod Steward knew he was about to lose his best friend and lead guitarist forever to the Stones, too. Rod had begged Mick to please not steal his guitarist from him, and Mick told him he won't ever do that - yet Mick already knew that he already had when he told him that.

B&B has one of the worst records in our weekly album battles, with just 3 wins against 17 losses, and sits in a 3 way tie for 20th place in the standings. Their Satanic Majesties Request on the other hand is doing okay in these matches and has a winning record of 9-8-1 and is alone in 12th place in the same standings.

To vote in this week’s second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll and click on Poll 2.

Looking back at our first Stones poll last week, was asked this question: Of the first 2 Rolling Stones UK singles, which one is better?

vs.

This one wasn’t too close, as “I Wanna Be Your Man” won by a pretty big margin. To see by how much, you can check out the final results here: Stones Weekly Poll 1 - week 1002. Or, you can also checkout the final results at the Stones Fans Top Pick 1.

The second Stones poll last week asked this question: December's Children vs Their Satanic Majesties Request, which album do you like the best?

vs

Oh well, we had a dreaded tie for the final result! You can check out the final result here: Stones Weekly Poll 2- week 1002. Or, you can see the final results and see the updated, current album standings at the Stones VS Page 1.

Now let’s check out this week’s Classic Rock Poll, where we enter poll week 643, and for this one we also vote on 2 different poll questions in one week. We are in week 3 of running 2 Rock Video Polls at this poll right now. So for the first Rock poll here is the first video question: Rate Elton John's 1972 live performance of “Crocodile Rock”

For this week's 2 Rock videos, you will really need to look at them in a different matter when you rate them, that is, look at them in a different light. I say this since Meat Loaf's video is just that, a pure video and I'll talk about it after I talk about this first video, Elton John's live performance of "Crocodile Rock" - taken from a live performance Elton and his band made in 1972 at the London Palladium, and that’s why you should look at this one a bit different, since it wasn’t supposed to become a video at all. But it did become one of the official videos for this song years later. This one gives you an idea of how Elton plays live in different ways (well years ago anyway), with him playing here in a more calmer, more mellow fashion than he was usually shown back then when playing live. But if you ever were lucky to see him play live back in those days, this was actually how Elton was back then, sometimes playing mellow - yet at other times he played lighting crazy in the very same show!

The only thing not live here is the organ, since he couldn’t play both piano and organ at the same time, and about a year or 2 after this performance was filmed, he would add another band member or two when playing live to take care of the organ part of this song – and other songs. So no, this isn't the video were Elton is dressed up like Crocodile while playing, either. That one you might have seen in the past and many would consider it to be the true official video for this song, and it was also taken from a live show from around 1977 or so. But I dig the one we’re voting on better, since it shows EJ as more of the piano player, and more real a person, and not acting so crazy. I dug this Elton John a lot more in those early days and I did get to see both sides of him playing live several times between the early to late '70s. So since both of the two are official videos, I’ll go with the 1972 one and that’[s what we will rate this week.

To vote in this week’s first Rock poll video poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For our second Rock poll video question, we ask: Rate Meat Loaf's official video for “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”

Now this one was a true made to be video clip. The song “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”, written by Jim Steinman in 1977, was a big hit for the Meat, and was really a duet sung by Meat Loaf along with Ellen Foley – who was uncredited at the time of its release. Not only that, but Foley wasn’t even seen in the cool video made! Instead, singer Karla DeVito is shown. DeVito toured with the Meat and that was part of the reason she was used in the video instead, shown lip synching to Foley's vocals.

The single itself, clocked in at eight and a half minutes long, making it one of the longest songs to be released uncut as a 45 RPM record (although in some countries it only ran a bit over 5 minutes long). But anyway, this video was made to be a true video, and true videos are always made to just look real while none of them are. So you shouldn’t hold the fact that a different singer is shown in the video, against this one, as we are only rating the video itself.

To vote in this week’s second Rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Now on a side note (and this is a repeat), the Rock VS poll is and has been on hiatus and will return sooner or later, but it may become a semi-regular poll once it does return and may not be run every week anymore.

Looking back at last week’s first Rock poll, it asked: Rate the Raspberries’ TV performance for “Go All The Way”

This one was as close as it could have been, with the top rating given being a “10” by just one vote! To see the full, final results from this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 642. To see how the other videos that we have rated so far for this Rock poll have done, go here: Top Ten Lists, Page, 14. It’s the second listing on the page.

Looking back at last week’s second Rock video poll, the question was: Rate Van Halen's official video for “Hot for Teacher”

This one also was very close in the voting, just not as close as the first one. But it too scored a “10” for its top vote. To see the full, final results from this second Rock poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 641. Plus again, to see how the other videos that we have rated so far for this Rock poll have done, and where this video fits into the list, please go here: Top Ten Lists, Page, 14. Again, it’s the second listing on the page.

Time to close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 396 of voting, and ask this new question: With the Beatles vs Help!, which album do you like the best?

vs

The “Beatles within us Polls” previews this week, featuring the LP With the Beatles. The second UK release for the Fabs, and this overall series has only 3 matches left to take part in as we wind down this Beatles album VS poll.

This week With the Beatles takes on the soundtrack to their second movie, Help!.

To see the song list for each album, for With the Beatles , click on: WTB, and for Help!, click here: Help!.

To vote in this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked: A Hard Day's Night vs Please Please Me, which album do you like the best?

vs

Once again in this weekly Beatles poll, another very close Beatles battle took place! You can click here to find out which LP came out on top: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 395. Plus the results will also show up on the The Beatles' Albums Page over at the Lennon site.

So that takes care of yet another poll post! Thanks for taking the time to read about this and last week’s polls, and since you took the time to read all of this, I do hope you will vote in them this week, too. To those of you who always do vote – thanks for taking part, and I hope all of you have a great upcoming week!
