I'm with you guys 100%. Especially the comment from Manny about how the older you get the less you are impressed by people. This is so true for me. Through the years we realize that everyone has a story. That waitress you see sometimes at the diner or that disabled man you see walking downtown have stories that are just as great, just as tragic, just as heroic, just as triumphant, just as meaningful as ANY famous person.
Celebrity stories are often embellished, trumped up, and taken out of context and are not always a real depiction of the person.
As I get older I care less and less about celebrities and their lives. I do have at least a mild and passing interest in celebs whose work has moved me. But even they are not worth that much of my time. I follow my interest and my heart and read and watch what moves me and fascinates me whether that is politics, theology, art, or music. I don't really care about Mick and Keith's marriages or drug problems. But I do care about meaningful stories about the lives of celebs, such as how Frank Sinatra was actually a forerunner of the civil rights movement, which is a story not told as often about him compared to all the blather about the rat pack.
Never met the great Muhammad Ali but I met 2 guys who fought him, plus I met Roberto Duran. I once stood within a few feet of Princess Diana and Prince Charles. But looking back, what does it all matter?
