Agree 100% on The Who. And early-on in the band's career, John Entwistle revolutionized how serious rock bassists would approach that instrument, as not merely a "boom-chick-a" rhythmic pulse, but in the lead as well.

Looking at Dylan as a "band" is not too far off. He nearly single-handedly killed off acoustic folk music in the mid-60's when he went electric witha rock line-up on stage and in the studio. And of course his followers were not too happy about this, yelling at him to "get rid of the band" during his raucous tours around the globe. Also interesting to note that the band in question went on to become "The Band".
