3 Stones polls this week! Plus acid guitar Pt 2/++

Week 994 of the Stones Poll is here, with only 6 more poll weeks to go for this poll! We usually run 2 different Stones polls per week for the Stones poll, but as noted in the special poll post I made here the other day, starting this week and for the last 6 weeks of these weekly Stones polls, we will vote on 3 new polls a week to close out this long running weekly poll instead of the usual 2. So along with the usual Stones album VS poll, we will be voting on 2 Stones video polls a week, too. This week’s first video question will ask this: Rate the Rolling Stones TV performance for "Ruby Tuesday"

So this week we have us a video which again (like last week) comes from a TV performance, this time from the Ed Sullivan Show, which aired live on January 15, 1967 in the U.S. I very much remember watching this the night it was on TV for the first time and being totally blown away by my favorite band and their new song. Those really were the days for sure when instruments you didn't expect to see a rock band playing was happening (thanks to the Stones and Brian Jones). Mick of course as usual sings the lead, while Keith plays piano and sings backing vocals along with Brian - whenever Brian isn't playing the recorder; Brian's sitting directly next to Keith at the piano, as this was back in the days when the 2 were still the best of friends (sadly, the problems between them would start up in just a few short months). Bill is seen playing a double bass (and not a cello, like what he played on the studio cut), and Charlie of course sits behind his drum kit – and as usual, he's not smiling. But there were no guitars, not even a bass guitar to be seen on the set... and this was a rock band in the mid-1960s? This was why I loved the Stones so much back then, sure the Beatles did this too - but the Beatles hired outside session players to perform with them for something like this, whereas the Stones did it themselves! I should note that while this song was played live by the Stones, the studio music from the song is heard mainly instead on the TV audio, as that was playing too while they played live.

This next paragraph is a repeat from last week… but it’s still important, so let me note it again….: There will be a link to the video in the voting booth so you can view it before you vote. Do remember that yes, we are rating this video for this poll, so where I often say that the videos linked to at the voting booth are only there so you can hear the song before you vote - but don't vote on the video - well for this kind of question of course that doesn't apply at all, as you most definitely should vote 100% on what the video is all about for this question.

To cast your vote in this first poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

The Stones second poll this week will ask this: Rate the Rolling Stones video for 'Dead Flowers'(Alternate version)

Have you ever heard the alternate version of "Dead Flowers"? Chances are that you have, since so many if not most of you reading this are hard-nosed Stones fans. But if you haven't, it's a bit faster than the original, and has a bit more of a rock feel to it than the pure country take of the original. But.... have you seen the video the Stones had made for this alternate take? If not, you're in for a treat here. Really, I'm not supposed to say anything in these video posts in a way that will sway the vote either way, but damn, this vid is cool and most fans never saw it when it was first made, since it just wasn't shown a lot. But to say the least, this vid got that Exile on Main Street feel to it for sure!

Now, remember the bit I just typed out above for the RT vid - about the repeated info and what we are voting for? Well that all applies for this vid too. To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

The Stones special third poll running this week is where we will run the Stones album VS matchups for this week, and this week’s question asks this: Sticky Fingers vs Voodoo Lounge, which album do you like the best?

vs

This week we return to The Sticky Polls, featuring 1971’s masterpiece LP Sticky Fingers - the only undefeated album left in this long running Stones series, as it stands at 19-0 and of course sits on top of the heap in first place in the standings. So counting this week’s matchup, SF only has 5 more matches left to battle in and to see if it will stay undefeated or not. So you think it will make it? Well, I’m not too worried at all against the LP it goes up against for round 20, that being 1994’s Voodoo Lounge - which is a very good album indeed, but is it a strong match against SF? I don’t think so, and VL surprisingly has a losing record of only 8 wins against 10 losses while sitting in 16th place.

To see the song list for each album, for Sticky Fingers, click on: SF, and for Voodoo Lounge, click here: VL.

To cast your vote in this third Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 3” to vote on this question.

Looking back at our 2 Stones polls last week, at the first poll we answered this question: Rate the Rolling Stones TV performance for "Get Off of My Cloud"

The Stones video rollercoaster ride continues as far as us fans giving out a poor rating one week and a great one the next. Well we clearly liked this one that we voted on last week a lot, voting it a top rating of “9”! That isn’t the highest rating we have given out to a Stones video of course (we have rated several a “10”), but every single week, even when landing a 10 rating, there’s always some fool voting the vid a zero or a “1”. But that wasn’t the case last week at all. Not only did the spot 7 thru 10 take in 99.2% of the votes, the remaining 0.8% of the vote went to a rating of “6”. Not a single vote lower than that, and that’s a first from what I can recall… An edit to note… I wrote this post up about an hour before the poll closed, and somebody in the last 45 minutes of voting, voted the vid only a “5”. Still, that’s better than a 1 or zero.

To check out the full final results, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 993, poll 1. Or, you can check out and see how all of the other videos that we have rated in the past have done by going here: Stones Fans Top Pick Lists - Page 2, under “Video Ratings”.

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Exile On Main Street vs Goats Head Soup, which album do you like the best?

vs

A much closer battle than perhaps you might expect took place here. Yeah EOMS won, and it lead for the entire week… but not by that much, either. You can view the close final results from this poll by clicking here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 993, poll 2. Or, you can see the final results and check out the updated, current album standings at the Stones VS Page 1.

Let’s move on over to the Classic Rock Poll, where for this week we enter poll week 634, and because we are running 3 poll questions at the Stones poll this week, where we usually run 2 questions a week at this one, for the next 6 weeks (at least) we will just run the normal first Rock poll and not run the Rock VS poll at least until we finish out the Stones poll in week 1,000. So for this week’s only Rock weekly poll, we will continue with the same multi week question we been asking: Who played the best acid guitar heard in a rock song (Part 2 of 4)?

Week 2 of this one and we have another 25 great acid guitar songs to choose from. Nope, it ain’t gonna be any easier picking just one song out of this week’s bunch than it was last week!

But which song and acid guitar player will you choose from this week’s new list? Just click here to see the new list and make your pick: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

This is the part of the Poll Post where I talk about the Rock VS poll…. but again, there’s no second Rock poll running this week. Gosh, other than for one or 2 major holiday weeks a year, I always run this second Rock poll and never miss running it, so it feels very strange to not run it. I guess this will be the same feeling I’ll get in 6 weeks when the Stones weekly polls end, too.

Looking back at last week’s first Rock poll, it asked: Who played the best acid guitar heard in a rock song (Part 1 of 4)?

I can’t say I was surprised at the large turnout of votes for this question. For a multi poll that will run for 4 weeks, I usually will take the top 8 picks voted on in each of the first 3 weeks to all be voted on again in Part 4. But with a 3 way tie for that 8th spot last week, I may only go with the To 7 from this one, It will just depend on how the polling goes in the next 2 parts until I know for sure, but as usual, I don’t want too many choices listed for Part 4, and that’s why we vote in the way we do for each part. So the top 7 choices were: Voodoo Child (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix - Acid guitar by Hendrix (7.5%), Revolution - The Beatles - Acid guitar by Lennon (7.4%), Can't You Hear Me Knockin' - The Rolling Stones - Acid guitar by Richards (7.3%), White Room - Cream - Acid guitar by Clapton (7.1%), Like A Hurricane - Neil Young - Acid guitar by Young (7%), Piece Of My Heart - Janis Joplin - Acid guitar by Sam Andrew (7%) and Whipping Post - Allman Brothers Band - Acid guitars by D Allman & Dickey Betts (7%).

To see the full final results from this poll, and the other 3 songs that might still make it into round 4, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 633.

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we answered this question: “I Don't Need No Doctor” by Humble Pie vs “Doctor My Eyes” by Jackson Browne, which song in part about a doctor, is better?

vs

Very close voting all week long in this one, just as I expected! To see which song was chosen, just click here: Rock VS Poll, week 633. You can also see the final results, by clicking here: VS Poll Page 3, list page 15.

Okay, time to finish up this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 387 of voting, and ask this new question: What is the most forgotten Beatles song on a studio (UK) album?

It wasn't that easy putting this list together since most Beatle songs from their UK studio albums are so well known. So I went with the few that you don't hear a lot on the radio (or at least, the ones that I don’t hear on the radio).

Now this question isn't asking for your favorite or least favorite song, or the one that you feel is the best or the worst listed, just which song is most often forgotten or rarely ever heard anymore. To vote in this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked: What is the best Beatles song that contains only one word in its title?

Boy, for the second week in a row the Beatle poll was on fire vote wise! I guess that’s what we get when I ask a good enough question, now if I could just keep coming up with such questions!

3 songs stood out of the list of 25 songs listed, they were “Help!”, “Yesterday”, and “Taxman”, and they finished in that very order. To see the poll’s full, final results, just click here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 386. Plus the top pick will also show up on the Favorite Beatles Songs Page over at the Lennon site.

So one more poll post is in the books!... or at least published online anyway. I thank all of you for voting in last week’s and this week’s polls, and especially for yet another week of high voter turnout!
