RE: RE: major league baseball? lsc

To me baseball is a beautiful game. Just my humble opinion but it is the best of all professional sports. It may seem to move slow, but there're things always going on, the strategies, every second, depending on the situation.

My baseball hormones started bouncing around in the middle of the '67 season. I rooted big-time for both Yankees (Mantle, Pepitone, Tresh, Stottlemeyer, Downing) and the Mets (Cleon Jones, Tommy Agee, Kranepool, Seaver but no Koosman yet.)

It didn't take me long to see that the National League were superior of the two leagues (at that time they were quite distinguishable), and therefore by '68 I also fell in love with the Cincinnati Reds. I knew intuitively there was something special about them, and I was right as they evolved into "The Big Red Machine"! They were on NBC's Saturday Game Of the Week so much.

'68 season for me took off full blast! I knew every team's starting lineup. There were only 20 teams then.

I started losing interest during the '89 season. (If the Mets had made the playoffs that year, which they almost did, I would not have gotten to see The Rolling Stones at Shea Stadium.)

I stayed away from following all sports throughout the 90s --- UNTIL the Saturn car company sent me a Mets promotion in the mail for the second-to-last game of the '98 season. I took advantage of the great deal --- because my son had become a huuuge pro-wrestling fan, and at that time it was turning into a disgusting and immoral pornography show, and I was trying to lure him away from that by replacing it with baseball. (That Vince McMahon guy caused a lot of grief in our household!)

Eventually he became a huge fan of baseball and a diehard Mets fan! Then followed almost all sports and loves football too. (Jets & Giants).

Saturn sowed the seeds! We went to that Mets game, taking his best friend along, and had a great time. ("Who is this Mike Piazza guy. So many many people are wearing his tee shirt.") And the rest is history.

And no more f*#^ing wrestling! Yeah, it eventually became PG, but I'll never forgive McMahon for what he put us through. He went toooo too far.
