With week 1,000 quickly approaching at the Stones Weekly poll, that means there’s only 6 weeks of polls left to run. So I’m gonna make some changes starting next week so we can get some extra Stones poll questions added in these 6 remaining weeks.
I can actually run as many polls in a week as I like (technically), but the data base and server seems to have issues on the few occasions whenever I’ve done this and ran more than 5 weekly polls at once.
I’ve been running video polls for the last few weeks at the Stones poll and will close out there with these video questions, but I got far more than 6 videos that I would like to ask about. So for the remaining weeks, I’m gonna run 3 polls a week at the Stones poll, one for the usual album VS poll and 2 for video questions. This way we will get to vote on 12 more Stones videos before the end gets here. To do this and still only run 5 weekly polls in one week, I’m gonna suspend the Rock VS poll for the next 6 weeks. As it is, I’ve been running out of ideas for that poll anyway after so many years of running it. So a 6 week break is in order, and there’s a chance after 6 weeks that brake in the Rock VS poll might continue, since the Stones album VS polls won’t be finished by week 1000, and will be run each week at the Rock weekly poll instead - until it finishes up. So I’m thinking at that rate to just run the Stones VS poll instead as the second Rock poll of the week. I’m still not sure on that, since I don’t wish to lose any Rock poll voters, as the first Rock poll is actually the most popular poll out of the 5 weekly polls run each week, and many who vote in it also vote in the Rock VS poll while skipping both the Stones and Beatles weekly polls. Of course, we have some who only vote in the 2 Stones polls each week and skip the other 3 polls. So I got 6 weeks to figure out what to do with all of that other than the one thing for sure is, after 6 weeks is up the Stones weekly polls will be finished, but the Stones album VS polls won’t be and will run as the second – or the third Rock poll for the week, since it won’t make any sense to run the Stones VS poll at the Beatles poll.
I plan on occasion to still run Stones poll questions at the Rock poll as it is anyway, every so often. It’s crazy, cause now after 993 weeks of polling, our weekly polls are at their peak in votes cast, and with the Rock poll entering week 634 next week, I don’t think I’ll have any problems coming up with another 366 weeks (or another 7 years) of poll questions for this poll. Gosh, I’ll be in my 70s by then! But I have a backlog as it is right now of Rock poll questions to ask, and all of them are good questions, and many are for multi week polls.
Only question is, with Gasland closing down next January, what will happen with the polls? How do I still advertise them? Gasland was half started back in 1998 to promote these polls, and I believe it has been a big part of their success. I have no doubt the regulars who vote every week - and there’s so many of you/them, will still show up each Monday to vote. But new voters are also needed each week too, and so many come from Gasx3 and the poll post.
So as I have noted, Gasland might be replaced by a blog come February of ‘19, if so, then that’s where the weekly poll post will show up. I’ll also start posting (well I think) at maybe Facebook, or Instagram, or one of those other social media sites and could announce the new polls there, too. I’ve never been on any of those other sites at all, so I know nothing about Facebook other than its founder seems to be a real jackass. But I’ll do something and I sure hope the remaining polls don’t die or lose most of the voters it has today. If that does happen, then it would be time to close them down. But I got a feeling that won’t be the case, but time will tell.
There is also a question as to how much longer the Beatles weekly poll will run for. Being that the Fabs were only around for about 7 to 8 years, there are only so many new Beatle questions I can ask, and I’m running out of ideas for there, even if the Beatles poll is only in week 387 (as of next week). But I’m sure I can come up with new interesting questions for at least a couple of years of new Beatles questions, anyway.
So anyway, I just wanted to post a heads up on how I’m handling the last 6 weeks of the Stones weekly poll. I will miss the Stones weekly poll once it’s all over, but everything has a ending and again, every so often I will be able to bring it back to life at the weekly Rock poll. So I do hope all of you who vote week in and week out at our polls, will continue to do so in the future, since only the weekly Stones poll is ending, while all of the other polls, including all of the On Going Polls and the Stones Ongoing Polls, will still be there for you to vote in!
