Being that this is a slow day in retirement land, this afternoon when I got back home, I did some Google searches and half wished I hadn't. Dan Ingram just passed away only 3 weeks ago at 83 down in Florida. While eating his dinner, he choked to death on his food! Damn! Then I found this on Youtube from WCBS TV in NYC reporting the news of his passing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOyvGW0SQoE ...Or instead, in this link you get to hear how he actually sounded as a DJ, well, right at the 2 minute mark of this anyway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOmVRvf0_ac. But it was weird to see this, as I didn't know that the NY deejays didn't spin their records like most of us deejays had to do, as it was a part of the job. Cleary he had a teck doing that from him, but there isn't even a board in front of him to operate, either, and this was back in 1990. I recall around that time they had special CDs for radio that you didn't have to even open to play the song, and you never had to cue in anything ever. but gosh, I learned on the oldest of radio turntables, the ones that actually had gears in front of them to operate the records.... I bet today all the songs are on computer and the deejay has a lot less work to do in the studio other than to put on the headphones and talk.
But anyway, it was great to hear his voice again, and for one last time! Although I was long gone from NYC by 1990 and I mainly remember him from the 1960s, his voice didn't change any, as I see that his voice sounded the same 30 year later on.
