Old NYC radio

Holy cow ✝️🐄 I didn't know Scottso was on WMCA, until now. He left there in 1960 and went to rival WABC. He stayed there until 1965.

I was going to provide a link to the aircheck from REELRADIO.com so we can all hear how it actually happened, with 'The Professor' having the honors of introducing The Beatles. It's a fun aircheck!

Quite unfortunately, when I went to get the link, I discovered, much to my dismay, that REELRADIO's last day was this past May 1st.

As of May 2, 2018 the site is no longer online. The site's founder, Richard "Uncle Ricky" Irwin, is in failing health, and the board of directors voted to close the site. So so sad! 😭 I've spent a million hours enjoying all those great airchecks! They started in 1996, the first aircheck website. Was also known as 'The Reel Top 40 Radio Repository'.

In this Beatles arrive in NYC aircheck, Scott Muni informed the huge crowd there, where many had transistor radios, that in all that wild crowding and fracas, Ringo had his chain inadvertently pulled off his neck, which had a Saint Christopher medal on it. An aunt (or grandmama) gave it to him for good luck, as St. Chris is the patron Saint of Travelers (and drivers).

Scott asked that if anybody finds it, can they please bring it to such & such place.

A young girl did find it, and brought it back.

Now I don't know if that was all staged or what, but I wish REELRADIO was still around. I'd love to hear all that again. They'll be sorely missed by me.

Just a few days ago I found out that another huge favorite internet site of mine ceased productions, Ultimate Oldies Radio, including the link I had to all those luscious Top 40 countdown shows of the weeks between 1955 and 1980 (and specialty shows), over 500 of them archived. 😿

570 WMCA is still around but they stopped being a music station Labor Day weekend 1970. They became 'Dialogue Radio'. Many years later they changed to a religious station.

Murray the K was indeed on WMCA, I remember enjoying his show on a Sunday night. I think he was filling in, but I could be wrong.
