RE: Stones doing 'Susie Q' on the tube

Really enjoyed that. I love those old clips so much. From Beatlemania on, The Stones and Beatles, and shortly after ALL contemporary music, was the only thing that made me feel joy, I kid you not.

So, I started working in my father's restaurant in Manhattan when I was 13 (1970). Kinda FORCED to go work there, on Saturdays and eventually Sundays too, and every holiday. (Summer hours would be added too.) I hated every second of it. Too scared & introverted.

Anyway, we had a radio in there, and the radio station he insisted on was WRFM-FM, a classical music station.

On those Saturdays, later in the afternoon when there were fewer customers, I would surreptitiously switch the station to WOR-FM, a very popular (for FM anyway) radio station. WOR-FM had shifted to a Top-40 type format, but they were great at it, and not just because it was a great great time for music, but because they were a quality station and knew what they were doing (at that time.)

(I would also put on WNEW-FM, but that's for another post.)

What I really loved about WOR was, they called themselves, paraphrasing, "NYC's number 1 Rolling Stones station. Nobody else plays more Stones!"

Not only did they play their singles, but album cuts too, like SFTD (a DJ said 'Yes we're going to play SFTD don't worry...'), Gimme Shelter, and ----- Susie Q.

Man I'd be ecstatic! Here I am a super-quiet, fat, funny-looking, pimple-faced kid, nervous as all HELL working in a restaurant in crazy Manhattan, not ready for that sort of thing, having a source of solace in those radio stations MOST especially when the Stones came on ---- until my father would tell me to switch it back to WRFM! 😩

But "Suzie-Q" by the Stones on Top-40ish WOR! What happened to those radio days when we heard Sinatra and the Doors back-to-back.

Slipping into reverie Ronnie.
