The Beach Boys on just about every level, who predated the Four Seasons and also outlasted them. Not to knock Frankie Valli and company, who were arguably the best white doo wop group ever. The BB's were a cultural phenomenon as well as a band, putting fun, sun. cars, and girls to music and combining diverse musical elements in the process (The Four Freshmen and Chuck Berry for example). Every member was a lead vocalist and together the complex harmonies were state of the art. Plus, like the Beatles they grew with the times instead of stagnating and fading away. Bob Gaudio of the Four Seasons was a great songwriter, but not near as prolific as Brian Wilson. And Wilson is considered one of the best arrangers and producers in the history of pop music. So no contest, Beach Boys hands down.
