RE: Adam and the Ants and new wave

Well you know how it goes, to each his own!

I flat out hated New Wave music, well most of them, as I was a fan of the Talking Heads (excellent band, saw them at CBGB's two different times), and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (my last ever NYC rock show), too. But most of the other New Wave bands sound like total crap. I recall somebody here a few years ago questioned me as to why I would like punk bands and not New Wave bands, since the 2 were the same. But that got me going. There was a major difference between Punk and New Wave, and no, they weren't the same music at all. Now yes, like many New Wave bands, many Punk bands didn't play their instruments too well at all, but that and the short hair was all the 2 had in common - and yet the early punks of the late '60s were all longharried bands, and a few punk bands like the Ramones and Alice Cooper never cut off their hair anyway wen the others all did. But I went to many Punk and New Wave shows back when I was still living in NYC and I will say one thing about both, while New Wave music sucked, the shows they put on were very entertaining and fun to watch! I first got to see David Byrne before he was the lead singer in the Talking Heads, around '71 or '72; I think it was at Maxes' Kansas City in Manhattan, and he was in this New Wave show, very fun to watch, and yes, David had this very long hair back then. Don't think I ever seen him in anything but short hair since, but the dude knows how to entaintain and put on a show for sure.
