I myself prefer stereo, but I have heard several lps in mono, and you are right, JF, they can be 2 very different animals, especially Sgt. Pep, which I got for a friend for Christmas. Also "Truth" by Jeff Beck was originally cut in mono. I got that one for my son. I would imagine "Beckola" was cut in mono. I'm not quite sure on that. Both lps are worth having, in my opinion, just because of the cast of characters in the band.
Funny thing you should mention the Rolling Stone book: my intent is to buy it today, but we're having some flooding in the DFW area, so I'm gonna have to call the store later and see if the shopping center they're in is flooded. I may have to wait a few days to make that purchase.
