Well, it was certainly "newer" and arguably more exciting. In the 60's for starters new styles and sub-genres were constantly emerging beginning with The Beatles, through the British Invasion, "rock" music from group ssuch as the Stones and the Who as distinguished from 50's era rock & roll, psychedlia, funk, modern Americana (The Band), jam music (the Dead), folk rock (Dylan, the Byrds), topical music from the likes of Frank Zappa, and many others. All those styles persist today, and good music is still out there being heard, although it does not seem to be as groundbreaking or even as radical as it was years ago.
