Its not an age thing. I'm sure our parents thought there music was better too. But in the past there was more talent. Obviously because of more opportunity, and more chances and money. Today the whole music business changed and talent that is out there may never get the break or the opportunities acts of the past have gotten. No act today gets a 3 album chance to break. The music of the past had innovators like Eddie Van Halen, Neil Peart...

Past was better.
