The Cars, Bon Jovi, Dire Straits - never were great, but all were good enough bands, but should not have gotten in. But if you let in lesser artists in the past who weren't as good as them, how can you not let them in too? The problem is, just about anybody who put out a record and sold more than 1000 albums gets in - and that's what is totally wrong with the Hall. It is not reserved for greatness like most Hall of Fames are.
Nina Simone? She's the total joke pick for this year. I think she had 2 UK hits and none in the U.S. She tried to kill 2 different people when she was alive, including a young kid - because he was making too much noise. So she had major mental issues, and was know to be a very rude person with a bad temper, too. But the bottom line was - although she put out a ton of music, her records didn't really sell well at all. But she did influence a lot of artists too, yet she wasn't a rocker either, but no way that she should be in the Hall.
The Moody Blues - Absolutely!... and finally! They should had gotten in the first year they were eligible!
Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Yes! She totally deserved to get in, yet I was thinking she won't make it.
So 2 great picks out of that bunch. Again, I can at least understand the Cars and Dire Straits, and it's funny (or sad?) that on 2 different news shows tonight, they both noted this news from the Hall with "Bon Jovi makes it into the Rock Hall", while the others were barely noted at all! Bon Jovi was I guess - okay at the most, but they only got in for the same reason why KISS got in, their fan base was very vocal in getting them in.
