RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: E: Buddhism...nsc

Again Fatmo, you know what you are talking about on this subject matter. It does bug me on what happened to my late friend, how could a person who's a Buddhist striving for Navinna, kill herself? It doesn't make any sense at all! Buddhists monks give up so much of their lives to become a monk, and then she just goes and finishes off herself after being a monk for all of those years?

The thing that got me was how she would listen to what I had to say, even if she disagreed with me. But I guess sometimes I got through to her, in fact I know I did on one of her last acts, when she wrote out her suicide letter. The 2 of us had spoken about how one's body should be treated after death, and I had noted how much I hated cremation, and for different reasons. Cremation is a big thing with Buddhists, and where I live, just outside of town is a spot that's call the "pyre site" (few U.S. towns have one) and where most of the locals are cremated after they pass, and so many of the locals (and not just family) show up there for when it's time to say goodbye to a friend. Yet I hate all of that (not the gathering, that's very cool, but the cremation). I feel it's just like treating the human body like trash in doing that. You live on average for 80 years, then you die and they just burn up your body just like that? Yes, we are all gonna turn to dust one day, or we are suppose to, but we aren't suppose to turn into ash. I rather just rot away under the ground as nature intended. Yeah I know what a body goes through when it decays and it isn't a pleasant thing to think of, but that is natural and it isn't like anybody alive will be around to watch it happen, either. Yet here in our town everybody gathers to watch your body burn?

Anyway, I bring this up here since my friend and I spoke a couple of times of this practice and she told me that she would be cremated when her time on Earth was up and she felt it was a beautiful thing to do if done right. She also never been to our local cemetery, so I told her to check it out and see how beautiful a place it was too... with the beautiful mountains all around it. I'm sure she did check it out after our talk. But just before she took her life, she wrote a farewell note to us, and in it among other things, she requested that she have a green burial in the local graveyard! So I felt that I got to her on that one and was pleased she was buried in the ground instead. Now if I wish, I can even go and visit her grave and know that her bones are still down there. Yet I can't do that with my late wife, as she wanted to be cremated and was. Her ashes were spread in the mountains above town, as she requested, while a small bit of her ashes were to be given to me and the children, again, as she requested. I refused what was offered me, no way I could take that. But the bottom line is that I can't go visit her grave today because there isn't one. I feel that if you live for 60 years while making others happy while sharing the love inside of you, that when you die you should get a small plot in the ground to be remembered by at that spot. Is that really asking too much?

Anway, about my reply above this one, it has generated just one email so far as I write this new reply and just one reply from a Gasser. Usually it's my religious NSC posts that cause me the most grief here later on, when I get back hateful comments. That hasn't happened so far yet with this one, and I hope it doesn't, as that wasn't why I wrote it. Everybody should just be able to speak their minds, even if you disagree with them. Yet when it comes to religion talk people are very strange and don't always feel you should talk about that in any kind of negative light. Yet I disagree, since I see mostly only brainwashing going on in most religions, and using that word is what gets most upset, with "I'm not brainwashed" being the usual reply I hear from those who clearly are. Yes, the hypnotized never lie since they don't realize that they are living in a haze... Yet again, all that is just my own observation of religious people, nothing more, and it was not meant as a putdown, either. It wasn't stated to upset others and wasn't why I stated it. I don't wish to upset anybody.
