We kick off this week’s new poll post and the weekly polls very late indeed, as the domain’s server issues continue. I guess the last 2 hours of voting in last week’s polls didn’t happen, since the ASP pages for the polls and board wasn’t online, and of course I was running very late tonight in starting up my Sunday night work here where I set all of the new links and start writing up this poll post. So it wasn’t until a half hour into the new poll week that I saw we had an issue and it took me 15 minutes to resolve the latest problem. So the new polls tonight started off almost an hour late, while the old polls ended at least 2 hours early. I hate that!... and I believe it’s only the third time in all these years that has happened on a Sunday night, which is of course is the worst night for it to take place. Well at least there weren’t any real close polls last week where the outcomes were affected by this mess, but still I realize some of you never got to vote last week thanks to these issues. I apologize for that, yet I see voter turnout was still excellent regardless, and I thank everybody for putting up with this problem. I can tell you this, the older I get, the less I want to deal with these web issues anymore. I still enjoy running these polls each week very much, but dealing with the web and server issues is another thing all together.
So now it’s time for me to stop bitching and get this week’s poll post underway as we enter week 956 of the Stones poll and we ask in the first of the 2 Stones polls that we are running this week, this: Rate the Rolling Stones video for “Mix Emotions” (Click here for the video)
Keith Richards wrote all of the music and most of the lyrics to this song, and the lyrics were directed towards his Glimmer Twin, Mick Jagger, and written about when they were not getting along well at all, just a couple of years before when Dirty Work was being put together and the result of their strained work together. It was a time when the band came real close to breaking up, all because MJ didn't seem to want to be a member anymore and wanted to go solo and make it big on his own. Lucky for the Stones and their fans, his 2 solo LPs both failed big time, and Mick returned to the fold.
This video, known as the “AIR Studios Montserrat video” (and yes, “AIR” is supposed to be in caps there), is the official one put out by the band and is not your normal music video at all. Only a portion of the song is heard in this clip and it is really set up more like a documentary than like a video, showing the band in the studio making the song and talking about how it will be. Different indeed, but I liked it anyway. Do you?
Remember before voting, that it’s the entire video we are voting on here, and not just the song/music. This video is also linked to from the voting booth, so you can watch it before you vote. Make sure to take the time to watch the video before you vote, to refresh your memory of it. The link to the video can also be found here in this thread (above).
BTW, this will be the last week for now of the Stones video polls, but they will return in a short time, since they are a lot of fun to vote in, won't you agree?
To rate this official video, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.
The second Stones poll is where we run the Stones album VS matchups, and this week's question asks: December's Children vs Blue and Lonesome, which album do you like the best?
This week the "December's Poll (and everybody's)" is next up in the Stones VS matchup’s rotation, and yes, this poll has never been run in the month of December before, and since this coming December will be here in less than 2 weeks and will be the last time in any December that we will have a weekly Stones poll to run (as the weeks are slowly running out on the Stones poll), well, "December's Poll” will never get to be run in the month it is named after. Oh well, so goes life when you try to run things in a certain order; as the order will never be perfect, no matter how organized that you try to make it.
December's Children has had a hard go of it in these battles, with a 6-8 record, which places it down in 17th place in the standings. This time it takes on Blue and Lonesome, and I can finally say it's been awhile since B&L has been run in this VS series, after we ran it way longer and for more consecutive weeks than any other Stones LP, when it first got to host this series earlier this year, since it was only released less than a year ago, and by doing that, it was the only way to have it catch up with all of the other LPs before the weekly polls end next year. While it has now been the most voted on LP in this series for this year (by far), it still is the least voted on LP overall, with only 11 matches to date. So as it enters matchup 12, its record is at 5 wins and 6 losses, so it has a shot to even up the score this week.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.
At the first Stones poll last week we answered this question: Rate the Rolling Stones video for "'Till The Next Goodbye”
Not a favorite video of Stones fans I see, not compared to their other videos, anyway. I’ll bet I know why its top vote/rating was only a “7” and almost was a “5”. That’s because only MJ was featured and the other guys were treated as second class in this video. Terrible direction to this video, to say the least, and IMO, ‘7” was too high a rating. Too bad, since the song itself was flat out great!
To see the full final results from this poll, click onStones Weekly Poll - week 955, poll 1. The top results from this poll will also show up at the Stones’ Fans Top Picks, page 2 , along with the other videos that we have voted on in the last 2 years, so you can compare the video’s outcomes there, along with direct links to each video that we voted on, in case you want to view them again.
Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: It's Only Rock 'n Roll vs Emotional Rescue, which album do you like the best?
Another week and another time for me to say that the final results weren’t close at all as far as voting went for this week’s Stones album VS poll series. To see the final results, just click here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 955, poll 2. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.
Over at the Classic Rock Poll we enter poll week 596, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we vote in 2 poll questions a week in this one too. The first poll’s question this week asks this: Rate the Blues Image video for “Ride Captain Ride” (Click here for the video)
This song was co-written by the band's lead singer-guitarist Mike Pinera and keyboardist Frank "Skip" Konte. It’s one of those songs without the greatest of lyrics, IMO. Like the part about 73 men sailing in a storm out on a peaceful sea. If there is a storm, then the sea isn't gonna be peaceful, and the boat that is shown in the video is shown in rough and not so peaceful waters as it is. Then the "73 men" part made no sense either. I mean, just where were the women? It's noted at the Winki page for this song that the number "73" came from the number of keys on Pinera's piano that he wrote the song on. But other than some silly lyrics, the song itself is a great psychedelic rock number, with some great acid guitar playing - and it was a top 5 hit in the U.S.
As far as rating the video for the song here goes, the lyrics alone don’t matter, as is the case with any video poll like this that is run here, and as I just noted above for the Stones poll video question, everything involved for this video counts, not just the lyrics. So do make sure to take the time to watch the video before you vote, the link to it can be found here in this thread (above).
To cast your rating in this poll, click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.
At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we will vote on this question: “George Harrison vs Mick Taylor, who is the better lead guitarist?
The main thing in putting this week’s question together was, since for the moment we are placing members of the Beatles and Stones up against each other, who in the Stones would I go with for lead guitarist? Since Mick Taylor, back when he was a Stones, mainly was the one Stone who only played lead guitar while in the band, while Keith overall mainly played rhythm guitar and some lead, and Ronnie and Brian both played a bit of everything while in the band, including lead guitar. So I decided for this week, that MT is the man from the Stones who we will match up against George, who of course was the lead guitarist for the Beatles on what, 98% of the music they recorded?
Now yes, just like the last 2 week's questions on this featuring the other Beatles and Stones, this poll question is not just limited to their playing in the Beatles and in the Stones, but their solo work can count, too.
To cast your vote on this question and vote for the better of the 2 lead guitarists, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.
Looking back at last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: Rate the Bob Dylan video for “Subterranean Homesick Blues”
My oh my do we all dig this video! A “10” was the runaway pick for first place, with 45% of the vote, Only 1.6% of all of the votes voted for a rating lower than 8!
To see the full final results from this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 595. For now the final result will also show up on this list page: Top Ten Lists, Page, 14 But I will in time, after 2 or 3 more video polls are run, will set up a new page for these results just like I have for the Stones and Beatles videos.
In last week’s VS Rock poll, we answered this question: Paul McCartney vs Bill Wyman, who is the better bassist?
I was thinking that Bill had a chance in this one, but I was wrong, as Paul lead all week, yet the final results weren’t a landslide win for Paul, either. To view the final results, just click here: Rock Poll 2, week 595 You can also check out the final results at the VS Classic poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10. .
We close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 349 and ask this question: Rate the Beatles official video "Hello Goodbye" (Click herefor the video)
This one was written by Paul and like all of their songs, was a major hit once released. The video for this was rather simple, showing the band wearing ridiculous looking uninforms while pretending to play their instruments along to the song.
To vote in this poll and rate this official video, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.
In last week's Beatles poll we asked: Rate the Beatles official video "Penny Lane' (Click here for the video)
Yet another very well loved video once again for the Fabs! A “10” was the top rating choice, and for all of the Beatles videos that we have voted on so far for their videos, all have seen a top rating of 10, while this one saw the highest percentage vote for that number, so far. To see the final results, just go there: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 348. Or, you can check out the final results at the: Beatles Video and Movie page, which is located at the domain’s Lennon Site.
Well there goes another week’s poll post into the books, or up on to the board anyway. So here in the U.S. we are now at Thanksgiving week already. It really is something how Americans are so much like sheep and do exactly as told – even when it comes to big business and the commercialism of Xmas. I mean, up to just a few years ago we at least waited till after Thanksgiving came and went before we started to see Xmas ads on TV and lights and trees going up in the stores. This year was the worst yet, with all that happening the week of Halloween, and now it’s not just the store who are overdoing it. On my 2 hour drive home in the dark the other night; I could not get over all of the Xmas lights already up and lite on regular peoples’ houses. Hell, when I was a kid you didn’t put up your tree and lights until the middle of December, yet now you are seeing them before Thanksgiving? I love looking at holiday lights at the end of December, but any time before then is waaaay too soon! Let’s enjoy one holiday at a time, and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday as it is, so please everybody, stop it with Xmas lights in the middle of November, they aren’t supposed to be lit up already and you are only making something special, unspeical, while giving into the commercialism of yet another holiday.
I thank all of you who take the time each week to vote in our 5 weekly polls!
