This is why terrorism works. The perpetrators attack and kill innocent people, and the ensuing backlash divides people along ethnic, religious, racial lines, etc. Great for their recruiting as well. As far as terrorists are concerned, it's "mission accomplished" and on to the next attack. We went through this knee jerk mentality in WWII when we unfairly uprooted and incarcerated Japanese-Americans even though they were loyal citizens who posed no threat. I can understand the sentiment expressed. Fear is a very powerful motivator, and there are evil people out in society. But at the same time we need to put things in perspective, given that the overwhelming population refugees from the Middle East and elsewhere are law-abiding and productive members of society. What we need is reliable intelligence, effective security measures, and a rapid response if and when needed. Nativism thrives side by side with terrorism. They feed on each other, and the outcome is never a good one.
