Given the tragic circumstances, I was happy to see that the NYC Halloween parade proceeded as scheduled. The intent of these attacks is to gain control over people's lives by stoking fear. There will always be sick religious extremists who are motivated enough to pull this shit as "martyrs" with virgins waiting for them on the other side, but their influence is only as great as we allow them.
