RE: RE: RE: Gordon Lightfoot, and Sirius XM

I would say that "Sundown" and "Carefree Highway" are just as good songs as "If you could read my mind", maybe better. But the latter is a true song about his breaking up with his first wife, and true songs written from the heart are hard to top.

The Deejays at SiriusXM don't play the same songs over and over - since they have zero control over what is played on their shows; they have less control over what songs are played than most deejays today have on normal stations, and that's the biggest problem with the music you hear on SiriusXM. That's the last place I would have wanted to deejay at, back in my day as a deejay. I had total control over what I played (at first), since in those days that was how FM radio stations ran things, it was all free-from. By the time I had my last gig as a deejay, I worked for a Colorado Springs station that gave the deejay no control at all over what was played, and I totally hated it. It was all reel to reel tape that they played, and at the time CDs were just becoming the thing, yet they had none (the station was in it's last days and was about to be brought out and go country).

Today at SiriusXM, they don't even have any means for the deejays to play music, no turntables or anything, all of the music you hear on the air comes from a studio in Washington DC, yet none of the deejays broadcast from there. There is an exception or 2 where the deejay does have a say, but overall, no, they have no say at all. So it's the MD who programs what songs they play and that's why the same music is repeated over and over each day. Their Classic Vinyl station could be so much better if they played more different songs - and there are so many songs that are not ever even deep cuts, like singles from the late '60s to mid '70s, that they never play at all, and they could and should be playing.

So where I used to listen to SiriusXM everyday, I now listen only 2 to 3 times a week at most. Plus the feed I get still doesn't carry the Beatles station, which totally sucks! It's the only music station on Dish from their SiriusXM feed, that they don't carry, as SiriusXM won't let them carry it, and that alone is my main reason to stop listening to their other stations anymore.
