In the end: more live albums than studio albums?

I think that if the material is there, and in good shape in terms of audio and editing, then they'll want to get it out and the fans will want it.

Let me possibly retract a comment I made earlier about the definition of "archival albums". I see this term used when a very, very old recording is released. For example there very old recordings of the great Russian composer playing his own music. But they are so old, and, of course mono, that they are not that appealing. Recordings like this are often called 'archival'. The term kind of sets up the buyer/listener for the fact that the audio will be poor, and that they should check out the recording for historical/educational purposes.

So the trend of all he major old bands (Stones, Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, and others) of digging up old concerts is not necessarily like this. Some of these old gigs sound fantastic, and some do not.
