RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Dunkirk

Pluto, more really good stuff. I've often wondered do todays generation really care about history, more to the point, World War 2. My Grandfather fought in World War-1 and showed me his huge rifle, (I was just 4-5 but the rifle was taller than me) and Grandpa would gloat that he killed 17 crouts with that gun son. My Dad fought in World War-2 but he said he couldn't talk about it. I tried, but he wouldn't say a word about his combat experiences. Both have passed many years ago.

People are not aware how close Hitler came to world dominance. I've studied every book I could get my hands on and watch the AHC (use to be called the Military ch.) and over time have learned most everything associated with WW-2. The war over Britain was a close call. The RAF were just incredible in how they used their radar and carefully picked their battles with Germany. I've always admired how the British would carry on their everyday lifes with signs up saying, "open for Business" as though it was just another day which helped sway the Germans to another direction due to the fact the RAF never folded against enormous odds. That's when Hitler decided to invade Russia which happened to be the coldest winter in 50 years. I have no doubt that was the beginning of the end of the war after Russia with their T-54s and millions of battle hardened troops destroyed Hitler's best troops and so many tanks, etc... Only 5,000 German troops made it home 10 years after the war was over. Stalin said " All that matters is how many Germans you kill, nothing else matters."

In closing, I could talk for hours about WW-2 only because of how close the war really was. We were caught off guard December 7, 1941 with Japanese on one side (and they were a handful) with Germany on the opposite side while Britain was the only country with the balls to let Germany know, "we'll Never quit" and finally started getting tons of aid from the US. The US/Britain/Canada have remained the big-3, which carries over to everything from Nato to me and you! By the way, I wrote down the name of the book you recommended I get and I will get it. It's always a pleasure talking to you.
