RE: RE: RE: Who who, who who, all thanks to Anita

So in the final version who is singing the Woo Woo?

Good question, but I'm not 100% sure. I do know that Keith, Brian, Bill, Jimmy, Anita and Marianne were the ones officially credited as singing the chant, and that comes from the session logs which aren't always correct when it comes to the final product. That info sometimes just reflects who sang in all of the sessions for the song's different takes, including takes that weren't used. There were 3 takes noted that were made for singing the backing vocals. But which of the 3 could it have come from if that info is correct? Well none if you go by the session notes - yet it had to come from one of them.

I recall when I saw the second take I remember thinking, this is what it sounds like on the record, so this must be from what we hear on the record. But now I think maybe not. At the time I didn't know anything about the session logs, and how many takes were taken. Since most all of us have seen the first take of the backing vocals in the movie, I think it's pretty clear just by listening closely that that take wasn't used, as they were somewhat off key and not totally singing it all together yet. In the second take filmed (I'm assuming it's the second take, but it could have been the third, there's no way of knowing for sure) it sounds close enough to what we hear on the record. But Keith is clearly not singing on this take, yet the session logs claim that he does sing backing vocals, so that would mean that chant there wasn't the one used either, so it would have been the third take that wasn't filmed, that was used. But it was noted in the logs that one take had then singing "who who" only, and I haven't seen that one before, so I'm assuming that's the third take, which couldn't been used since the final take sounds like "woo woo" and not "who who". So, maybe there was a 4th take?, or maybe Jimmy just took the best parts of all 3 takes and put them all together to sound like one? Too bad Jimmy isn't around to tell us, and when he was, nobody asked him. My guess is the surviving Stones don't know for sure either.
