Thumbs down to Morrison / Thumbs up to Dirty Work!

Okay, I do like the Doors, but I can't look at JM in any other way but in the broader historical context. And what I see I hate to say! ain't that good. Bad poet in a solid band. They did write some great songs, and they were sung and played well. I guess why I call Morrison a bad poet is that there is always (to me) this feeling that he is trying to present himself as a mystic, a poet, a visionary and he's really none of those things in any way except in a superficial, 'put on' way. He plays the part well, looks the part, but its not the real deal. But he was a wild man on stage, a solid singer, fronting a very good band. I did not hold these views in my teens when I discovered the Doors, and coming to these conclusions about Jim Morrison is not enough to stop me from really enjoying their music even now.

Dirty Work wins for me. I myself might tend to rank it in the bottom 3 Stones albums but it does have some real gems that I always get back around to.
