RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: The Golden Six

No worries BJ. We all have a right to not like the music of a band, even if they are hugely influential and successful. I guess for me I am careful about calling a band's music shit when it has been that successful for that long. I would just say I don't prefer it. Shit, as I said, is Justin Timberlake. Who is going to be listening to his records in 30 years?

That being said, I do feel the plagiarism charges against LZ have been taken way too far by certain folks who frankly hate the group and are jealous of their immense popularity and influence. I mean, I saw one guy try to dissect the "In Through The Out Door" record, pointing out how they ripped off that blues guy or this blues guy when the dang album is awash with keyboards and synths and had nothing to do with the blues other than maybe the last song "I'm Gonna Crawl" which is more R&B based than blues based. I also don't feel if an artist uses a line from another song (example: "Shake 'Em All Down" by Bukka White which Robert Plant sings at times during "Custard Pie" from 1975's Physical Graffiti) that it is plagiarism. Artists refer to other songs all the time in their songs (see Neil Young's "Long May You Run").

But going back to the first couple of LZ albums.....they should've have given Willie Dixon the co-writing credit he was due for "Whole Lotta Love" without Willie staging a lawsuit. No doubt about it, and I bet if you cornered Page, Plant and Jones today they would tell you the same thing. It's not something that Zeppelin fans are proud of. Artists make mistakes, but these people (not you BJ) who say LZ's entire success was based on ripping off other artists and not crediting them is ludicrous. Like some obscure blues artist really penned "The Rain Song." The band eventually developed their own style, but they needed to get off the road for it to occur. the first album was done for practically nothing, and then they toured non-stop for 2 years. The second album was recorded totally on the road.
