The other thing about boots not being as special is that more and more artists are opening their archives. I mean, Springsteen has a site where you can basically download or get a CD of every gig he's done for the past 6 years or so, plus he's included a number of classic shows from the past.
I'm sure more than a few people spent big bucks on "Fuckin' Tired" (the definitive gig from the Steels Wheels tour) and then the Stones release it from their archive with a DVD, packaging, a booklet, etc. for half the price of the bootleg.
The Stones and Springsteen have also released expanded versions of their classic records with important outtakes and such. Of course that can be a double edged sword when Mick decides he needs to re-record three quarters of the vocals on the Some Girls outtakes when vintage vocals and better lyrics were already present. And when the band decides to include 2 songs that weren't even recorded for Some Girls. "Tallahassee Lassie" was done during the late 1978 sessions at RCA Studios in LA after the Some Girls tour, and of course "We Had It All" was an Emotional Rescue leftover. Like serious Stones fans would be fooled :)
