It's a real mystery, isn't it? How much work was really done on the tracks when they were recorded at Olympic Studios and at Keith's house? Did they get all the basic tracks done? The thingy is, they were only in L.A. for a couple of weeks, and mixing takes time. We know that two Exile tracks were recorded from scratch for sure in L.A. I think Jagger said in the documentary that there was zero fucking around in L.A., that they worked non-stop while they were there. My best guess is that they had basic tracks, and did all the overdubbing and vocals in L.A. After that the mixing, editing and sequencing. It must have been a lot of work in those 2 weeks.
