Like it or not, rap/hip-hop is a sub-genre of rock music, and if there were any great rappers around, then they should get in. Only problem, there aren't any good ones IMO.
Rock music does cover a lot of different sounds, and while one can argue that rap isn't music - well alone it isn't, but all of the rappers do add hip-hop to their rap, and that is music, and no matter how much you might dislike it, it is a sub-genre of rock music. Hip-hop isn't jazz, and it clearly isn't country music. Rap alone is poetry with music added in to it.
If we did what some of you suggest, then rock music today would be looked at as being mainly dead, since the kind of rock music we all like, well there isn't too much of it being made anymore. Heck, even our beloved Stones last LP wasn't a rock album.
