This audio must be from the 1968 NME show?
As I noted, no, it isn't, only the clip is. But I have heard the audio from the show before, and it was a great performance put on by the Stones that night indeed!
Any myth that Brian had forgotten how to play guitar around this time should be dispelled by this performance
That was just a stupid story taken out of context by some fans and nothing more. They claim the Glimmers said this about Brian, yet they never did say that. What they did say, was that Brian after '67 didn't want to play guitar anymore - and that was a true fact. Guitar wasn't ever his main instrument, piano and sax was. But the Stones were a guitar driven band, and there was the problem. But he could still play guitar fine (as long as he wasn't too messed up on drugs, which was the vary same deal with Keith in the early to mid '70s), and as you can clearly hear on 1968's BB album.
I also have the original, uncut boot of the Rock Circus, before the unnecessary studio guitars were dubbed in. Brian sounds fine on there playing his guitar, yet on the official release of YCAGWYW, on that song, when they played it at the show, you can't hear Brian's guitar at all on the official release, leading fans to think his guitar was turned off (it wasn't!) and some think that's why the studio guitar you hear instead was dubbed into the song. But on the boot I have, and which a few Gasser have seen and heard, there is no such crap added in to the song, and you can clearly hear BJ's guitar, and his playing sounds 100% fine. It sounds as good as his slide guitar sounds on the one song they didn't edit out his playing, on, "No Expectations". Yet back in '69 when the show was going to air on TV, the Stones were going to cut out that one song and not show it! It was, IMO, and many others too, the highlight of that show for the Stones, and they weren't going to even show it at first! How the hell do they explain wanting to cut that out? It was the same as removing BJ's guitar from the rest of the soundtrack when there wasn't any need to do so! This happened because the Glimmers didn't want him in the band anymore at that point, that's the only reason why. As a hard-nosed fan of the Stones, I'll never forgive them 2 for doing shit like that to Brian! The man wasn't a saint, that's clear, but neither were the Glimmers, they were as bad as he was (really, Keith was worst), as Brian never did to them what they did to him. At least MJ did back down from all of that, but Keith never did and lost a bunch of his fans because of his unfair and totally uncool actions and words against not only Brian, but others, like Jagger, too.
Everything negative that Keith ever said about Brian, was really the man who Keith Richards himself was. The proof is in the pudding, he puts the Stones down (mainly Brian and MJ) more than anybody else, period! When you put down Brian or Mick, that's putting down the Stones, period! Plus other than Charlie, he has put down everybody else in the band, and that's a fact! That's why I'm today only still a fan of his music, and not him. When he stops putting down the other Stones, that will be a great day for the band and it's fans indeed.
