Love record stores... but they're a dying breed

You might be right gomper, but for now I'm going to disagree with you, at least a little. Opening a new store or maintaining an existing, hurting, one is worth serious consideration but it doesn't have to be utter foolishness. Vinyl has somehow managed not to die after all this time and is doing quite well in certain places. Twist and Shout Records in Denver is an example of a very healthy store, with tons of new and Used Vinyl and a very large collection of titles on CD. Step in and you think you're in the mid-90s. I know that Seattle and other big cities have plenty of options too. Then look at people like Jack White, who is buying pressing machines and opening his own facility in Detroit all in support of vinyl and all the things that go along with it. He is helping to push, remind, and stimulate not just consumers but also industry people in the continued comeback of vinyl. There are a lot of professional people too, who don't like and don't use the streaming services as well, they want a physical product. For example, music directors for TV shows need a physical product to be able to work into the show, and it is more than just an .mp3 or .WAV for actual editing. Shows everywhere, but especially on Netflix and Amazon, are increasingly interested in indie and discovery artists because their songs are cheap and they turn to record store staff and local radio stations with physical stuff and demo tapes to find them.) In short, I don't think record stores are going back to a booming state real soon but they are also not dead yet by any stretch.
