Opening a new record store would be utter foolishness. Unless you had some business plan to account for the lack of demand - and that gets you into the shirts, shot glasses, etc etc etc . But those stores too are probably struggling. A used record store that sells vinyl to hipsters,connoisseurs, and audiophiles might work.
The basic problems are these: You can get MILLIONS of songs on the internet whether legally or illegally. And if you like to still buy CDs and/or LPs, as I do, the selection is endless at Amazon.
Its sad, and its not their fault, but these stores are on the way out.
