Angie/Best Opening lyrics/Stones/Rock/FabsVS polls

It’s time to start up week 926 of our Stones poll. As usual, I will continue to run 2 Stones polls per week for all of us to vote on. This week for the first poll, we will continue rating different Stones videos. So the first question asks this: Rate the Rolling Stones official video for 'Angie' (Version 1).

The video for this 1973 #1 hit song was released in 2 different versions. Version 1 shows MT playing guitar along with Keith, the other shows him on the piano, which was actually played by Nicky Hopkins on the song. We did once vote on which version was liked better (version 1, was picked), but we haven’t yet rated either video, so this week we look at the first version and this time we shall rate it.

This next paragraph I used to repeat each week for this question, but haven’t in the latest few rounds, other than one part of it… but it is important, so let me note it again this week…. Remember when voting, that it’s the entire video we are voting on here, and not just the song/music. The video will be linked to from inside the voting booth so you can watch it before you vote. Make sure to take the time to watch the video before you vote, to refresh your memory of it. The link to the video can also be found here in this thread (above)… If you use the link in the poll menu (only), when you click on where the song's title is in the question, you will be sent to YouTube and the video. If you click on anywhere else in the question, that will take you to where you can vote on the question in our voting booth.

So to watch the video and then cast your vote in this first Stones poll question, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

This week at the Stones album VS poll, where each week we bring back an older series to do battle once again, we will ask this: 12x5 vs Emotional Rescue, which album do you like the best?

vs

The “= 60 Polls” return featuring the Stones 1964 LP 12x5. The title of course meant that there were 12 new songs made by 5 Stones, but the title still comes across as looking like it’s about a multiplication problem that comes out to 60 when answered correctly. 12x5 in this series finds itself in the middle of the VS album standings with a pretty even record of 6-6-1. This week it does battle against the 1980 release, Emotional Rescue, which is 6 spots down from 12x5 in the same standings with a 2-9-0 record.

To see the song list for each album, for 12x5, click on: 12x5, and for Emotional Rescue, click here: ER.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the Stones two polls last week, the first one asked this question: Rate the Rolling Stones official video for ”We Love You”.

An “8” was the top pick for this one that saw some very closing voting between the picks for numbers 5 thru 8. To see the final poll results, just click here::Stones Weekly Poll - week 925, poll 1. Plus, you can also check out how all of the other videos that we have rated in the past stand, by going here: Stones Fans Top Pick Lists - Page 2, under “Video Ratings”.

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Out Of Our Heads vs Undercover, which album do you like the best?

or vs

This one wasn’t close at all. To find out which LP came out on top, just click on here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 925, poll 2. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll, we enter week 566, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we run 2 poll questions a week at this one, too. The first poll’s question will ask this: What's the best opening lyrics to a song? (Part 1 of 5)

Yes, we start a brand new 5 week poll tonight asking for your favorite opening lyric from a song. It should be a fun 5 weeks while we run this question and see how we all like what opening lyrics the best. There will be 104 songs that we will vote on in the next 4 weeks/parts, then in week/part 5, the top 7 songs voted on from the first 4 weeks will be voted on again in Part 5.

I had to compile all the songs that will be used along with their opening lyrics on a separate page, outside of the voting booth, since the poll's admin only takes so many characters in the poll option field, and therefore there wasn’t enough room to show the lyrics in most cases. So yes, since the lyrics are too long to fit into the said field, I had to do what I’ve only had to do twice before and list the lyrics on a separate page, and that's the only place where you will be able to view them. So no, the lyrics won't be listed in the poll where you vote, instead, only the song and the group who recorded it will be shown there. When you vote you can either try to remember the exact opening lyric, or you can read the actual opening lyrics on the special page that I placed them on and which will be linked to at the poll. To see all of these opening lyrics that you will choose from for the next 4 weeks, again, the link will be in the voting booth, and I'll also directly linked to it right :here

The list at the voting booth is of course listed as usual, in alphabetical order, but on the special page it's in no order at all, other then it's broken up into the 4 parts that we will chose from in the next 4 weeks. Also, for Part 1, the song "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon is the first song listed this week since it was this song that gave me the idea to run this poll question in the first place, after hearing it played on the radio one day and I thought to myself, what a great opening lyric this song has.

To vote in this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we ask this question: 'Ruby Tuesday' by the Stones vs 'Tuesday's Gone' by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which song about a girl named Tuesday, who was a rolling stone, is better?

A few weeks ago I noted I had only one original poll idea left in my future poll file, which was started back in 1999, which I never asked in a poll before, and this is that very last question. Why did it take me so many years to get to? I don't know, other than it did get somewhat lost in that file which had grown so large in the last 18 or so years. But it is a good question to ask.

For Lynyrd Skynyrd, yet another hit song where maybe or maybe not they borrowed once again from another songwriter to get a big hit. This time the story was about a girl who was a rolling stone and had to be free, and their version even had the very same name as the girl in the Stones song, that Stones fans feel they took the story from, and the song it goes up against this week. Now it is said by Skynyrd fans that the song was really written as a metaphor, and it's really not about a girl, but it still turned out to be the same kind of song lyrically as the one Brian and Keith wrote for the Stones about a girl they knew. With that said, it's still a great and beautiful song indeed.

The Stones song is the one song that most today know was not written by Jagger/Richards, but by Jones/Richards, and just not credited in that matter. The beautiful music was written by Brian Jones alone, while he and Keith wrote the lyrics together about – according to Keith, both his and Brian’s (at different times) ex-girlfriend, Linda Keith. In his bio, that’s all that Keith noted about this song, in one simple sentence, after he described the kind of person and girl that Linda was/is, he notes that she really was Ruby Tuesday. Only problem I had with that statement in his book, was after the way he described her in the book, she was not the girl who was written about in the song at all. I mean, just read that part in his book and tell me that she was the same girl noted in the song.

As usual, links to the 2 songs are in the voting booth for you to listen to, if you would like to do that before you vote. So which song will you vote for? To make your pick, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: Which song is a total rip-off of another artist’s song?

Well a very close poll indeed, that is, after the first, top pick was made, that part wasn’t close at all, as ‘Ice Ice Baby’ by Vanilla Ice (rip-off of 'Under Pressure' by Queen and David Bowie), was the top pick (at 9.2%), and received almost double the votes than the second place song, ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin - (rip-off of 'You Need Love' by Willie Dixon/Muddy Waters). Third place when to ‘Catch Me Now I'm Falling’ by the Kinks (rip-off of 'Jumping Jack Flash' by the Rolling Stones).

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we asked: "Night Prowler" by AC/DC vs "Midnight Rambler" The Stones, which song about a nocturnal stalker/killer, is better? Another poll run last week where the final results weren’t that close at all.

To see which song ended up on top, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 565 You can also check out the final results at the VS poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We rap up this post as usual with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 319, and this week’s question is: The White Album (aka The Beatles) vs Help!, which album do you like the best?

vs

This week at the Beatles VS poll it's week 5 of the White polls, featuring The White Album, and this week it takes on another great LP from 1965, Help! , which has a 2-1 record so far in this series; The White Album is now at 4-3.

To see the song list for each album, for The White Album, click on: TWA, and for Help! , click here: Help!.

To vote in this poll, go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: The White Album (aka The Beatles) vs Rubber Soul, which album do you like the best?

vs

Guess I gave away the answer to which album ended up on top last week in close voting, since I noted TWA’s new record, while RS is now at 3-1. But if those numbers mean nothing to you, then you can check out the result from last week here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 318. Plus, check out the standings here: Beatle albums vs Beatle albums.

Well that does it for this week’s poll post! Thanks for taking the time to read about this and last week’s polls, and since you took the time to read this, I do hope you will vote in them. To those of you who always do vote – thanks for taking part, and I hope all of you have a great upcoming week!
