RE: rick bain - crooked autumn sun

Manny, you know on second thought I shouldn't claim to know the extent of brian wilson and rubber soul, its just having studied both band's music extensively I am just under my own impression that pet sounds was going to come out the way it with or without the effect of rubber soul on it. the biggest overt influence to me was the simple concept of having songs the belonged together and coming from the same place grouped together and presented together as one album. Both albums do this quite well even if to me they are musically and thematically quite different and entities unto themselves.

In any case if you want another stand alone album recommendation (i forgot all the 1967 albums for the moment, except for The Serpent Power, from '67, which is absolutely awesome!) then I would have to recommend "Crooked Autumn Sun" by Rick Bain and Genius Position, from 2001. It is such an awesome hidden gem, kind of like The New Radicals "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" that it is surprising more people don't know it. It is seriously one of the coolest albums I have. It is the only true album that group made and Rick Bain, as it happens, also recorded his own version of Pet Sounds in full because he too was so blown away by it, but I have never heard it.
