RE: RE: RE: RE: pet sounds...ssc

I was fortunate to catch Brian Wilson's 50th Anniversary Pet Sounds tour concert here in Boise earlier this month. It's been 51 years actually, since the tour has been ongoing for a year now. The stage sound provided by an incredibly tight band replicating complex arrangements was something to behold. Having said that, I can't see Brian doing this sort of thing too much longer. He seemed happy enough and no doubt soaking up accolades from an adoring audience, but also very tired by the end of a 2-hour show, which included a bunch of classic Beach Boys hits and some resurrected obscurities as well. As a bonus, original Beach Boy Al Jardine and 70's era member Blondie Chaplin were part of the ensemble and each did brief sets of their own. Jardine's voice is unchanged from "Help Ma Rhonda", rare for a 70-something performer. and Blondie was also in fine form vocally and showing some impressive guitar chops as well. "Pet Sounds" was recreated song by song in sequence to sound as it was created in the studio, and the inspired playing and lighting effects certainly did justice to the songs, which collectively are in a class of their own. Yes, Brian and The Beatles were in friendly competition back in the day and pushed each other to greater heights in the process. Brian held his own vocally, but had lots of help hitting some of the higher notes from Al's son Matt Jardine who was able to capture 60's-era Brian Wilson falsetto to round out the sound. I don't attend too many live shows anymore but this was one I was not going to miss.
