Yeah, it kind of shows how great his output is that he has been so successful without ever even meeting his audience halfway. I wouldn't bother going to one of his concerts these days as I think he's just either building up his pension fund or mitigating his loneliness-maybe both. I think part of it is that he began in the folk tradition where the performers were supposed to be kind of zealous and serious and without any showbiz style razamatazz.

But yes, he is a phenomenon.
