From what I've read, Gram did get him into country music, but I don't know how true that was, but it's at least half true.
I never understood the influence of Gram. Was he really that important?... or was he just another lucky rich kid who just so happened to be in the right place at the right time, who really didn't do anything original? For sure he was a trust fund kid who was born super rich, totally living off his family's money, making $100,000 a year for life while doing nothing at all but collecting his inheritance.
Yet he was best friends with Keith, no question about it, and the 2 of them did so many drugs together, that some point to Gram as being the person who turned Keith into the big time druggie that he became (and more than one book on the Stones has stated this), while in turn that's what killed Gram. That may or may not be true, but I still think the man was overrated in what he did music wise... But, if he really turned Keith on to country music, then that was a good thing for sure! Plus yes, he was a known ladies man - to the max, a reason why MJ liked to hang around with him so much, as ladies were drawn to him and his charm, as he knew actually what to say and how to pick up woman, better than anybody else around.
