No, this is not a boring question at all, but I don't understand it, either....
Really, you hear a connection? Where? How can one song, "Continental Drift" sound like an entire jazz album? If there's one form of music that I've never been into, it's Jazz. I tried to get into it when I was in my late teens, but it just never clicked with me; to me all jazz sound exactly the same to me.
But I just went to YouTube and played parts of the John Coltrane album, and then played this excellent Stones Eastern-flavored song. How do you connect the 2? I don't hear anything music wise close between these 2. Now I admit, I'm nothing close to being an expert on the sound of jazz, not at all, but the Stones song doesn't sound anything to me like the Coltrane album, or jazz. The Stones song sounds to me like it was suppose to sound - like a tribute to Brian Jones and the eastern music he was into towards the end of his life, like his song "Gomper". Does "Gomper" and "Continental Drift" sound alike. Yes, but even they have their differences to them, but both are eastern sounding, New Age songs. So where do you hear the jazz connection? I hear no jazz at all in either song.
