My answer is that of course you can like an artist's music but consider them a jerk. I have to disagree with you guys on the matter of boycotts. There's no danger, it is just preference.
How silly was it for fans to burn Beatles records just because Lennon said they were bigger than Jesus? How silly is it to not enjoy Cat Scratch Fever because of whatever this Ted freak does on his own time? Music is all about preferences. And when music is released, it no longer belongs to the artist. The fan gets to interpret it, identify with it, enjoy it, and use it however they might want to, and how they see fit. Who cares what the artists thinks, wants, or does at that point? Fans shouldn't have to go one way or another because of politics or personal principles or whatever. That said, they can if they choose, I guess it is their choice, but I don't think there should be any guiding theories or rules in place that dictate what (or how) you like music.
