Liking an artist's music even thought he's a jerk?

This is a totally modern thing. 150 years ago, when Richard Wagner was making genius music, (and he was a genius!) but not everyone then knew he was a total anti-Semite. But then, few heard him at all by comparison to today because no one had the technological means to listen to music 24/7 as we do now.

Today, we know artists inside out. We know every aspect of their personal lives. We know their tastes, their habits, their virtues, their faults.

I think one has to be careful. If you learn to much about your favorite artists you'll quickly start finding things you didnt want to know.

Nugent is a first class creep, in my opinion - but he does rock
