The above is a link to the full album "The Serpent Power" in stereo, and you'll want it in stereo. It is simply fantastic to my ears, I think you'll like it because I know you like good stuff. It is 45% Country Joe and the Fish (whose debut from '67 is also stellar) 20% Doors, 20% Grateful Dead (whose debut ALSO from '67 is also stellar, the best one the Dead ever made, to me) 10% Grateful Dead and 5% Love. The Serpent Power had members from the Grass Roots and ties to the Grateful Dead with a total Bay-area vibe. I just love them. On this album they are wicked, wild, but also with a couple of softer sunshiny folk-pop numbers.
Also from '67 is the US version of the band Kaleidoscope, with their album Side Trips, which is really cool LA folk-psych, the Puerto Rican version of the band called Kaleidoscope, with their one and only psychedelic standout of an album, which is more funky electric latino-psyche, Moby Grape's first album, which is a true masterpiece of white-hot-electric-rip-roaring-west-coast psyche, and lastly, why not include "Easter Everywhere" from '67 by the 13th Floor Elevators, the most truly acid-fueled-into-the-depths-of-your-mind psyche of almost any band in 1967--or any year for that matter.
Is that enough from 1967? Enough to get you started? That year and the one that preceded it might be the two best years in rock and pop.
