Clearly this has a lot to do with your taste in musical style.

I was/am somewhat in your situation. But every once in a while I discover a band that either I never heard of or perhaps just never considered.

Here are two that I discovered within the last two years:

Slade

Budgie

Also, *early* Judas Priest is much different and, IMHO, much better than what you may have heard.

I'm not sure how well known these guys are, but they're pretty cool:
