3 Stones albums/Harpsichord/Clavinet/Harmonium/+

Tonight we kick off week 912 of our Stones poll. As usual, we will run 2 polls in a week at this one. The first poll question will be: What is the most underrated song on the Stones The Rolling Stones, Now! album?.

Our third week looking for the most underrated song on each Stones studio album. 1965’s The Rolling Stones, Now! was the Stones third U.S. release and included 12 songs. 7 were originally released on the U.K. release The Rolling Stones No. 2. There are many underrated songs on this one. One of them might be looked at as very much underrated, but only depending on where you live. You won’t feel that "Little Red Rooster" was underrated if you lived in the U.K. in 1965, when it was released as a single and became a number 1 hit there, while at the same time it was also a big hit in most other European countries. But in the U.S it wasn't released until this LP came out a year later, and it was never released as a single, so in the US it's looked at as an underrated song, just nowhere else.

But which one of these 12 songs do you feel is most underrated? To cast your vote in this first Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

This week at the Stones album VS poll we ask: Let It Bleed vs Aftermath, which album do you like the best?

vs

The Bleed Polls return this week for our Stones album VS series, featuring 1969’s Let It Bleed. LIB is a fan favorite, and sports a fine record of 10-1, good for second place in the standings. This week LIB takes on another fan favorite, Aftermath, which is at 7-2 putting it in 5th place.

To see the song list for each album, for Let It Bleed , go here: LIB, and for Aftermath, go here: Aftermath.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the Stones polls last week, in the first poll, the question asked was: What is the most underrated song on the Stones 12 x 5 album?

"Around and Around" was chosen the most underrated song on 12 x 5, taking in 15.4% of the total votes.

You can check out the full, final results from this poll, here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 911 poll 1.

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Sticky Fingers vs A Bigger Bang, which album do you like the best?

vs

Sticky Fingers remains undefeated with a landslide win, going to 12-0. To see the final results from last week, just click on here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 911, poll 2. I’ll also add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

Let’s turn now to the Classic Rock Poll, where we enter week 552, and just like at the Stones poll, we run 2 poll questions a week at this one, too. The first poll the question asks this: What was the best Harpsichord, Clavinet or Harmonium played in a rock song? These 3 keyboard instruments look like pianos, but don't sound too much like them.

For the harpsichord and clavinet, these 2 came to use during the mid-1600s. The difference between the two is that the strings on the harpsichord are plucked, whereas with the clavichord they’re struck. These 2 instruments are often confused for each other when heard playing on records, along with the harmonium, which years ago was known as both the “Pump Organ”, and the “Reel Organ”. It generates its sound by air flowing past a vibrating piece of thin metal in a frame called a reed. The harmonium came about in the 1850s but they haven’t been made in many years, still there are many old ones around today. Yet they were rarely played in rock music, while the harpsichord and clavinet are heard more often.

In the poll I list most of the songs where people have gotten these instruments mixed up. At first I was only going to list songs that featured harpsichord and clavinet, but while searching for more songs I started to see where fans were getting the harmonium confused with some of these same songs, too. So since there are only so many rock songs with harmoniums out there, I added the instrument to the list and expanded the poll choices. So we have a rather large 45 songs to choose from this week.

To see the full list and vote, click on here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For this week's VS poll, it’s week 6 of the "Same title, different song" polls. This week's question is: 'Photograph' by Ringo Starr vs 'Photograph' by Def Leppard, which one of these 2 songs with the same title, is better?

Ringo’s 'Photograph' was released as the lead single from his 1973 album Ringo. It was written by his former Beatle mate George Harrison, who gave Ringo shared writing credits even though he wrote it alone and was going to use it himself at first. The single, about a lost love, went to number 1 and is today one of Ringo’s most loved songs. George does sing the backing vocals on the song and plays guitar on it.

Def Leppard’s song came out in 1983 and was one of the very last songs recorded with the original band, as guitarist, founder, and former band leader, Rick Willis, was fired from the band shortly after this was recorded, for substance abuse. His replacement, Phil Collen, was shown playing lead guitar in the video, but Collen wasn’t in the band yet when the song, co-written by Willis, was recorded with Willis on guitar. Anyway, the song is about a guy who’s in love with a centerfold who’s featured in his favorite girlie magazine. It also went to number 1 on the charts.

To make your pick between these 2 songs, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: What was the best Güiro, Jawbone or Vibraslap played in a rock song?

For the third week in a row we had over 900 votes cast for this first rock poll, but no new record was set. There was some very close voting in the one, too, other than for first place, where the Stones “Gimme Shelter” - Güiro by Jimmy Miller, held a lead of 20 votes over the second place spot. But for spots second thru 18, only 9 votes separated all of them! So yes, some ties in the top 10 for this one. Finishing out the other songs in the Top 3 spots were “Oye Como Va” by Santana - Güiro by Michael Carabello, at 5.7%, and tied for third were “Feeling Alright” by Joe Cocker - Vibraslap by Laudir de Oliveira, and “The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” by Traffic - Vibraslap by Jim Capaldi, both at 5.6% each.

In last week’s Rock VS poll, we asked: 'The End' by The Beatles vs 'The End' by The Doors, which one of these 2 songs with the same title is better?

The Beatles rarely lose in most of these matchups… did that continue last week?… Plus as is usually the case in the VS polls, I voted for the loser again (only thing was, I never stated last week which song I was going with). Well anyway, to see which song came out on top from this VS Rock poll, go here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 551. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We finish up our poll post with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 305, and this week’s new question is: Yellow Submarine vs With the Beatles, which album do you like the best?

vs

Only 2 weeks to go with matching up Yellow Submarine with all of the other Beatle LPs. This week it’s With the Beatles, their second UK release, that will go up against YS. With the Beatles was released in the UK on the very same day that JFK was assassinated in the U.S., November 22, 1963. Americans didn’t know of the mop tops yet, but they and their music soon would help America get past that terrible November day.

To see the songs on Yellow Submarine before you vote, go here: YS, and for With the Beatles, click here: WTB

To vote in this week’s Beatles poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: Yellow Submarine vs A Hard Day's Night, which album do you like the best?

vs

Yes, yet another week, and another big loss for YS… you can check out the final results, here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 304.

As usual, I like to close this out by I thanking all of you who take part in the voting each week in our polls! I do hope all of my fellow American Gassers who have off from work tomorrow for the MLK holiday, will enjoy yourselves, and also take some time to remember the great man that Dr. King was, on this special day set aside for him.
