Music From Big Pink in '68 by The Band was hugely influential on many rock artists of this era. The sense of antiquity becoming modern prompted artists such as Eric Clapton and The Stones among others to go back to their elemental "roots". Suddenly psychedelia seemed dated, which might explain how back-to-back albums such as TSMR and Beggar's Banquet were a musical universe apart within the course of a single year.
