RE: RE: RE: charities and the holidays...nsc

I'm like shocked, this really happens in Buffalo? They ask and demand your change for charities? I've never seen that happen here before and don't recall it back when I lived in NY, but that was 40 years ago when I lived there, too.

But Manny, don't blame the charities, blame the stores there instead. Now that I'm taking over as the director of our local food bank, I'm planning to place as many donation jars in as many of the local shops that I can - but I would never ask the cashiers to ask for a donation, either, nor would they ask! You will be surprised how many people put some money in the jars on their own, there's no need to ask them. But, a place like what I run needs donations regularly to keep people fed, since not all the food is donated, we have to buy half of it; really, only can goods is what is usually donated the most, and people need to eat more than just can food. Right now we only get one government grant to help to pay for the food we buy, which ins't enough (I'm gonna work on finding more such grants once I take over the food bank FT come January). But I hope you can understand that charities need people to donate money so they can help others, and it ain't a bad thing at all. You are making charities look real bad with your comments here, and as a person who volunteers his time to help others, it hurts me to hear you say that. I bet it ain't the charities fault at all. Complain to the store managers, you can bet they are the ones behind it, although I would have no clue as to why they do that in the first place.
