I'd be interested to hear whether US postal votes have improved security compared to the UK or whether there's the potential that a head of a family or community can use influence to obtain signed ballot papers and effectively hold a block family vote? If you've got to vote in person, no matter whether you have a bullying spouse or not, under a private vote I'd guess you're much more likely to vote according to your own conscience.
We have a right to switch to a postal vote in the Uk. I'm not in favour as you might guess. I do agree that making voting easier is important, but not when it weakens the democratic process. Perhaps Internet voting may increase participation, and it's arguably easier to maintain a higher level of privacy than a postal vote. The security and counting process has got to be proved and seen to be robust then though!
